What's the south side of the tracks of West Footscray like?

West Footscray, VIC 3012 is located within the Maribyrnong local government area, part of the Melbourne (Greater) Region in Victoria.

We are moving to Roberts Street and trying to gage community, things to do, cafes, and general need to knows as new residents.
Thanks

Rough. The north side is blue chip, commands a higher premium as it is safe to walk even at night, has great facilities too like about 3 dog parks all within a 1km radius, easy access to supermarkets you can walk to and dog parks and sporting facilities and cafes. It's a lifestyle and safety choice.

The south side, south of the tracks like Roberts st, Indwe street was once industrial so the soil is not so great (not sure what chemicals could potentially have been used if you wanted to grow veggies like i did). Also, it is closer to industries ie. A bit too close to the recent fires. You'd probably prefer to pay a minor premium to avoid the air pollution which can occur as hazy clouds in the sky at times. Depends if you value health or not.

I would never live south of tracks due to these reasons. The north side is much nicer. I find the air is a lot cleaner, i breathe better and there is less to no noise as there are no heavy trucks passing nearby.
North side of WeFo for me, that's for certain !!!
