Reviews of West Moonah, TAS
"Average location"
To many bogans, to much crime but still okay to live if you can manage to find a cheap house
"Great location"
Great location, views and an affordable purchase by Hobart standards. 15 mins from town with less traffic at rush hour than most suburbs. Loads of shops, cafes and restaurants on Main Street. Formally working class and gentrifying fast.

"A mixed and convenient suburb"
I've lived in West Moonah for almost three years. It's a convenient location, a short commute to town with plenty of nearby supermarkets and services. It's reasonably affordable considering its location.
However it's a mixed suburb, I feel it lacks nice parks and walking areas and doesn't have a communal atmosphere. Sometimes you hear arguments and people drive recklessly late at night.
There are schools around but they have mixed reviews.

"Average Joe"
Your average Joe suburb. Though probably one of the nicest in the Glenorchy Municipality. Many of the houses have pretty good views. Close to Moonah, which has become a bit better in recent times. People try to compare moonah to North Hobart, but let's be honest, North Hobart is much much nicer. West Moonah is much more affordable than neighbouring Lenah Valley and New Town, so is becoming a popular option. Quite close to the CBD.
Great for
- Becoming more popular
- Affordable
- Quiet (less traffic noise)
- Sunny, good views
Not great for
- Few cafes, have to go to North Hobart

"Paradise In the Hills"
Living in West Moonah for 2 years now, wouldnt like to live anywhere else..
Beautiful views of water/bush/Mt Wellington, the house blocks are generally very big, lots of trees.
Good bus service - Close to Springfield and Glenorchy bus malls, so you can travel anywhere from thes to transport hubs.
Schools good both private and public.
Great for renovators as Bunnings, K and D, lighting, kitchen, Harvey Norman, numerous tile shops, electrical.. can buy anything or get anything made in Moonah 2 minutes away ..Also many tradespeople live here..
Moonah great for all facilities but to live in West Moonah is like living out of the hub of noise but close to everything Moonah has to offer.
As gentrification continues, many houses are 2 storey to capture the rural, river and Mt Wellington views.
So close to Hobart, West Moonah will continue to rise in property values as people cannot afford Newtown and Lenah Valley.. a GOOD REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT.
Great for
- Cafe Hub 2 min away in Moonah, increased renovations are making it more like the North Hobart Restaurant Strip
- Great for renovators - all products and service at your door
- Affordable
- Quiet (less traffic noise)
- Sunny, good views

"Sunny and peaceful"
I've moved from Bellerive to West Moonah 6 months ago and I simply love it! It ended up being much better than I thought. I found it very sunny (which reduce the cost of heating and is more enjoyable when doing gardening), quiet and I feel safe. There is plenty of trees around and the people are pleasant so far.
Great for
- Sunny, good views
- Quiet (less traffic noise)
- Affordable
Not great for
- Few cafes, have to go to North Hobart
- Can be windy on certain days
- Mostly old houses

"a great place for shopping and eating out!!"
The bike track is very close and makes walking easy and also great for kids and bikes. There are many playgrounds and green belt areas in West Moonah.
There are many hills in Moonah but the main shopping areas are flat and there are many carparks.
As the old tv advertisments said about Moonah 'You can get it all at Moonah, cos it's right up your street'!
