Fishing buddies and sandflies

Fishing buddies and sandflies
Is there a local and very informal group of fishers who go out fishing together (for safety reasons as well as fun)? We would like to buy in Yamba for the surfing and fishing but dont know a single person. My husband has a tinny and a reef boat and think its a bit dangerous to take his big boat out too far alone. Second question is-are the sandflies and mozzies terrible? If so are any areas ok?

There is a sailing club on Harwood Island, about ten mins from Yamba. That would be a good place for you to start meeting people who like the water. I am not aware of any fishing clubs, but there may be. The life savers at Yamba main beach would prob. be able to advise on that also. We have encountered some sandflies in the area near the Yamba Tavern, where the water is I think still and there are lots of homes, but not at any of the beaches at all. There are also homes on the islands out of Yamba and of course Maclean which is nearby. Hope this helps.
