Hi Peter
Yes Yeronga like many other Brisbane suburbs was effected in the 2011 floods but less than 10% of the homes in the suburb had water enter their property . This was an event that should never have happened to the extent it did , the State government have admitted the Dam management could have been better. As a resident of Yeronga the many benefits of the suburb far out weigh the risk of flood. Its a great place to live with a wonderful community.
Unfortunately Yeronga was affected by the 2022 flood. The low lying areas of Yeronga were affected, however there were properties that were affected in 2011 and were not touched in 2022, due to flood mitigation strategies and the management of water releases. The Yeronga community is very special and the neighbourly spirit is amazing. The Yeronga river precinct will continue to be one of the most sought after Brisbane suburbs due to the proximity and access to the CBD as well as the livability.
Yeronga was affected by the floods in 2011, however, most of Yerongas homes were not touched by water. The dam management was heavily criticized at the time and should never be repeated. Many of the residents whose homes were affected have since received a flood litigation letter which states that if this was to happen again their property would not be affected. Yeronga is a stunning leafy suburb and much of the area is in fact well above flood levels.
