"Close to city, getting expensive"

Airport West is a wonderful suburb to live. It's close to the city. has lots of restaurants, parks and is close to public transport. There are a lot of units getting built making it very easy living.

"Don't be fooled or put off by the name - a great suburb!"

A great suburb - on the up. House prices have doubled in 8 years. Family friendly - excellent shopping, schools and sporting clubs - WESTSAINTS and EAGLES! Happy to be part of a great community and we don't need Essendon, Moonee Ponds or Niddrie to make our house prices increase or suburb better. No name change required. Council should take more notice.

"Good freeway acsess"

Airport West is a good central suburb with excelent freeway accses. It has many parks, schools and shops, with Keilor rd only hop skip and jump away.

It's only draw back is the industrial side of the suburb further up towards Westfield.
All in all, a great suburb and worth it's sharp price rise of late.

Cheers,

Phil

Doogal Agree with Phil - however the industiral area shpouldn't be a put off. Essendon Fields has rejuvenated the suburb - it's more aligned to Airport West than Essendon. Lots of young families and a hard pocket to now buy into. Self sufficient suburb that doesn't need to rely on the so called 'wanna be areas' to increase prices. A great pocket of Moonee Valley!

"So convenient yet so affordable!"

With the advent of the aviation industry in the early twentieth century, this farming area west of Essendon Airport (hence the name) began to thrive as an aeronautical industry hub adjacent to what was once Melbourne’s main airport. Subsequent residential development occurred mainly during the 1950s which is why the area has a distinctive post-war architectural flavour, with pockets around AJ Davis Reserve having a more contemporary feel. Popular with young families and first-home buyers, Airport West is seen as a relatively attainable entry point into Moonee Valley and boasts a broad range of services and amenities. Many of the larger blocks near Matthews Avenue have been redeveloped providing a choice of quality villas and townhouses – popular with investors and downsizers. Westfield Shopping Centre has always been the retail hub of Airport West but this is now complimented by the Essendon Fields commercial and retail precinct along with the bustling McNamara Avenue shops. Public primary and secondary schools are available along with St Christopher’s Catholic Primary School plus excellent open spaces including Hanson/Etzel Street Reserves and the acres of parkland along Steele Creek. Transport options are also excellent with tram (No 59) and bus (476,483) services plus great freeway access in or out of town.

"Lots to do for families and professionals"

Despite its name, this unusually-titled suburb does not play host to an airport but is based near to one. Situated 14km north west of Melbourne and bordered by towns such as Tullamarine, Gladstone Park, Gowanbrae, Essendon Fields, Keilor Park and Niddrie, Airport West has a population of less than 7,000. It has fantastic transport links including trams, buses, trains and access to nearby freeways and would make an ideal home for families or professionals who need access to the city centre but want to return home to the calmer suburbs. There are two primary schools and one secondary school in the local area as well as an Aussie Rules football team. A Westfields shopping complex and direct factory outlets are also present in Airport West, which is a great location to live if you work at Essendon airport or in that industry.
