"Calliope - Friendly, semi-rural"

Calliope is a suburb in the Gladstone Region of Queensland. Calliope has a population of 5,098 people and 27.43% of its occupants live in rental accommodation.

Being only approximately 24 km/25 minutes drive to Gladstone on a good stretch of road on the Dawson Highway, it is a very appealing place to live.

There are residential properties and as you travel out past the caravan park, the blocks are larger.

Calliope High School opened in January 2020 and Calliope Primary School is in the main street.

There is convenience stores, including IGA, medical centre etc therefore you do not need to travel to Gladstone.

"Calliope - Best little country town in our region"

Calliope is semi- rural and named after the Calliope River. The beauty of Calliope is that you are only 25 minutes drive from Gladstone where there is great shopping and restaurants and 30 minutes from Tannum Sands beach, Boyne River or Lake Awoonga.

There are a few different areas in Calliope as it has been a long term outer suburb of the Gladstone region. In the main street you will find the air conditioned Hotel with a TAB, a relatively new shopping center with Drakes, doctor, chemist, hairdresser and a real estate agent - what else could you want in a small country town?

In January 2020 a new High School was opened and there is a well established Calliope Primary School which also hosts a swimming pool.

Real estate is varied from established residential homes in Calliope itself to small acreage out along off Stowe Road which then leads to larger farms. Rents and sale prices have always been a little lower than Gladstone which makes Calliope even more attractive to live here.

Boxing Day Calliope Races are a must if you are a local or in town at this of the year!
Calliope Rodeo is held in September annually so if you are looking for another great family event write this onto your calendar.

Calliope Country Club offers you an opportunity for a round of golf and there is also a local bowling club.

The very popular Calliope Historical Village Markets are held towards the end of the month (check their Facebook page for dates). Grab a drink or a bite to eat and sit with your family under the shady trees. Bring the kids along for a ride on the famous miniature train or just come along to view the abundance of homewares, fresh produce, plants and bric-a-brac for sale. Gold coin donation.

While there don't forget to visit the village's historic buildings and spend some time looking at the interesting displays including the Calliope River Railway Display.

"A Top Little Spot"

Calliope is the only place worth living in Central Queensland in my humble opinion.
It is right on the door step of major industry in Gladstone but you are not confronted by it no pollution comes our way.
Calliope is a community that loves to get in and help. For a place this size we have some wonderfull clubs that allways seem to be very competitive when they go up against our big town rivals. The Roosters Footy, Cricket, Pony Club, Soccer, Polo Crosse, lawn bowls & a wonderfull 18 hole golf course are just some of the clubs in town. Plus a big Rodeo every year.

Air conditioned pub with a TAB, shopping center, doctor, chemist, hair dresser what else could you want in a small town?
You have Rocky & Agnes Waters only a short drive away. Close boat ramps to access the reef.

Who was the goose who said about the river splitting the town obviously never been here. I have no doubts you would get the odd croc passing through but have never seen any out there & have camped & water skied there since I was a kid. We really have the best of both worlds out here just don't tell any one.

"Great town perfect to be close but not right in the hussle hussle"

I never write on these things, but after reading a couple of the reviews about Calliope, I am sure one in particular has not lived here and is in the 18 - 22 age bracket.
I am a mother of 2 small children, who has lived in the township of Calliope for the past 15 years and on the outskirts for the last 23 years. Calliope has grown out of sight over the past 5 - 7 years, with a new a shopping centre now fully tenanted. The walking tracks, has exercise stations around them and there are multiple places to sit by the man made lakes for a picnic. Calliope River is 5 minutes drive away and I have never seen a CROC!!! and we camp there often. Awoonga dam and Tannum Beach are 15 minutes away. The schooling is good and Gladstone is at your fingertips being only 12minutes to Clinton and 15 - 20 minutes (max to the middle of town, not 30 minutes as stated on here).

The night life well the clubs and pubs are good for a drink with friends, live music is on regularly and the locals are friendly and helpful, but if you are after a headbanging, go to town or the gold coast, sunshine coast.

We love living in Calliope for its location and people. Great places to bring up kids and family life

Rentals in Calliope

"A small country town close to plenty of work"

Calliope is a great place to bring up your family with a child care centre, kinder garden, primary school, bus to Gladstone which is only 20 minutes away for your older children attending high school. Most sports are catered for including Rugby, cricket, soccer, pony club, girl guides, swimming, golf, tennis and lawn bowls. The Calliope River is a fantastic recreational and camping area and is only a few minutes drive away. Contrary to other comments there has yet to be a confirmed sighting of either a fresh or salt water crocodile is the camping area. Dinning out options are limited but the meals are particularly good with the 2 pubs, bowls and the golf club all supplying good quality food at reasonable price and helping to ensure you and your family have an enjoyable experience.

"Quiet and friendly and dull as...."

Calliope is about 30 minutes drive south of Gladstone and is divided by the Calliope River. A place once well loved for fishing, swimming and general water fun. This was of course before we all figured out that it's crawling with crocodiles. Until recently, it was believed that the dinosaur survivors didn't live this far south. It was common knowledge that they were in the River in Rocky and hour north, but we hadn't thought about croc moving habits. Anyway...apart from the lovely river that I don't suggest you swim in, there's bugger all else to do here. It's hot, dry and small. Take a drive out to Tannum Sands on the coast and have a swim there. Less crocs....I think....

Hadn't been there for a while, went through the town recently, new shopping centre - coffee shop! a lot of building going on. Spoke to someone who recently built there, said there are exercise stations scattered throughout the new sub divisions but I don't know how its possible to exercise outdoors in this heat. Good public swimming pool. Very quiet.

Very pricey property for it's location. Do like it's little towny feel though.
