Reviews of Chapel Hill, QLD

9th December 2023

"Great for families"

Chapel Hill is currently really cheap compare to other suburbs with similar qualities.
Great variety of good schools to choose from. Some of the best public schools in QLD, as highly ranked as some best private schools! And so many great private/independent school close by too! Great home school communities around too. Plenty of options if you have school age kids.
Safe and quiet yet really convenient! Close to big shopping centres and only 10km or 15min drive to CBD!
Walking trails up Mount cootha summit etc...
What is not to love about it? Especially with its current price tag...

Looking for a home in Chapel Hill?

10th September 2023

"Love it for schools"

Moved here in May 2023 from Logan Reserve. Love the move. Currently good homes' price vary between 1-1.5 mil; live near to Burbong ST with Indooroopilly primary and high school catchments. Easy access to M3 for CBD and towards south such as Rocklea. Kenmore and Indooroopilly shopping centres are very close, my favorite is Mount Ommaney shopping center which is not congested and spacious for parking in different locations around shopping center. Brisbane City Library access to Kenmore and Indooroopilly. Downside is most of the houses have complicated driveways and garages because of the hilly nature of suburbs. Sometimes its very steep and with very difficult access. Prices are not so cheap now (2023) compared to Kenmore or Kenmore hills especially eastern side of suburb where it borders Indooroopilly. Another downside is railway station access as Indooroopilly is nearest and no parking option near that station for city work. I prefer trains, but a number of buses around and frequency is very good especially 444. 425 goes thru Burbong st. Majority of the houses are old and built in 1970-1980. Leafy everywhere and not much apartments/units around and not many rentals as well; I assume majority owner occupied, at least in my street not even a single rental house. Another downside is 5G connectivity is poor, if you are particular about mobile data speed. NBN is the only good option and mostly HFC cable driven which is good enough for 100 mbps like speed. Great schools catchments, access to Indooroopilly Shopping Centre for any expensive shopping such as Myer, David Jones. For kids activities, sport clubs, music schools, karate schools, swimming schools all around within 3 km radius and good choice to pick from.

Have lived in Chapel Hill for 6 years now. Enjoyed so much with so much quote and area to walk, run or cycle. It has perfect access to the city by bike and still good access from Centenary high way. Schools are pretty good.
Not sure in what aspect you believe it has been carved up.

Very fair point and to give a one star is quite harsh but I guess it's one person's individual "personal" opinion.

We've lived in Chapel Hill for almost 10 years, to be so close to the city and Mt Cootha I honestly don't see how it's carved up especially if you compare many other suburbs. We love our beautiful suburb

"The hidden gem of Brisbane City"

Very lush and green with close proximity to the city and all amenities. Chapel Hill is great for families, it is quiet, very safe and has is located very close to the several good primary and high schools. In addition, it is very close to a great shopping centre (Indooroopilly Shopping Centre)and the amazing Mt-Cootha, as well as having several health practicians located around the suburb. Access to transport is also very good as there are many bus stops all around the suburb which, will be able to get you to the train station

"Quiet, safe yet convenient"

I love Chapel Hill. Great school catchment. Also not too far to UQ.
If you have kids they can get good education without necessarily paying the high private school fees. And go to top university and still stay at home. Probably can end up saving a lot of money...
The property price is relatively cheap compare to Indooroopilly, toowong and taringa etc...
Quiet and safe but yet close to shopping and not too far to drive to city.
I wish the government could build a motorway connecting M5 all the way up to Bruce highway... the gateway isn't that much faster and expensive... so it takes a long time to drive north through all the traffic lights... compare to the eastern suburbs where you can get on to M1 easily.

I don`t understand why these peoples give 1 star and what`s their purpose. Just because start to have sub-division land so you give 1 star? In Chapel Hill Even sub-division land they are in decent size. What score you give for those suburbs allow 200-300sqm land?

"Be prepared to drive"

Getting to work is difficult because of the traffic. Public transport is in the form of buses but they aren't that convenient. No shops. If you like peace and quiet in a very hilly area and don't mind driving everywhere, this is the suburb for you. The older houses need constant work.

"Chapel Hill - my home my heart..."

We moved to Chapel Hill five years ago and we love it here! It is a green and leafy suburb with a relaxing welcoming vibe. We are close to bus routes and not far from Indooroopilly Train line if needed. We are spoiled for choice when shopping and so close to the country if we feel like a complete change - the best of all worlds. Our dog loves exploring the neighbourhood and we have met so many interesting people on our walks. The Mt Coot-tha reserve is in our backyard so we enjoy nature in great abundance. Less and less do we feel the need to leave our local area because we feel so comfortable and peaceful in Chapel Hill. Access to the airport for holidays and other trips has been made easy with Legacy Way so close to us. Morning commutes can be challenging at peak hour so locals need to find ways to manage their journey until upgrades are implemented. In every other respect this is a super suburb for its lifestyle and location. I think they will have to carry us out of Chapel Hill in a box before we decide to leave!! All newcomers welcome ❤❤

Hello, congrats on making the move and it sounds like everythings worked out well. We're a family of 4 and are planning to relocate from Melbourne to brissy later this year. We are also considering indoorapilly and Barden. Do you find the chapel hill community is friendly and why did you choose chapel hill (as opposed to indoorapilly?). I really appreciate your feedback on the move and the suburb itself. It looks lovely!

Thanks
Rebecca

sudt

Hi Rebecca not sure if you and family have made the move up north but yes the community here in Chapel Hill is friendly to say the least. We moved from Sydney October last year and never look back. If you need school, Indooroopilly State primary and high schools are both highly ranked in QLD although with the former it's quite competitive and you'd need to live within its catchment area - tip is to rent within the catchment, enrol the children then move if need be. Otherwise Chapel State State Primary School is also good. Indooroopilly is bit too crowded to our liking and like tonij3 alluded to it's an easy short drive from Chapel Hill. Sorry haven't been to Bardon much but all the best with your move!

rebeccat12

Hi thanks for your reply! I decided on chapel hill and are in the process of enrolling the kids to the local school. I was there in Oct and was sold by the pretty jacaranda trees! I hope your move went well. Thanks again!

ilky

Sudt, how did you find the move and relocation. Is it what you expected? What would your tips be for a family about to move? Also did you check out Bardon.

"Leafy, peaceful with lots of bird life near the city"

We moved to Chapel Hill 1 year ago. We were unfamiliar with the area but got lost in some back streets trying to find some walking trails in Mount Cootha. Well we are very glad we got lost! We fell in love with the area straight away. It feels as though you are miles away from the city but have all the conveniences of Indooroopilly, Kenmore and the city close by.

When we were first looking at suitable suburbs, we wanted to buy somewhere with a train line; Chapel Hill doesn't have train access- instead it has an amazing cycle route into the city. It is exactly 10km on the bike which takes me half an hour. I ride to work every day, along with many of my neighbours. It is fantastic.

Another important thing to note is the demographic here: because of the position (with the university and lots of good schools) there are many academics living here, from all over the world. This gives it a really cool vibe (and very interesting conversations while walking the dog).

We love this suburb.

"A green pleasant suburb near Mout Cootha walking tracks which is also close to Indooroopilly Shopping town and Kenmore plaza for shopping"

Chapel Hill is a lovely suburb with homes on good sized blocks which have established gardens. It is near Mount Cootha parkland so it is easy to get exercise on the shady walking paths. Living here is very pleasant and it is a perfect spot for bird watchers.
The suburb has a very relaxed vibe. I have found the neighbours in my street to be very friendly but not intrusive.
There is a good bus service to the city and academics and students can easily get to the University of Queensland by bus.
Shopping is easy. The Kenmore Plaza shopping centre and Kenmore Village are less than 5 mins by car from all parts of Chapel Hill. We are very close to Indooroopilly Shopping Town so it is easy to shop for clothes, gifts etc. I can also walk to a fantastic local caf, a curry restaurant and and a small convenience store. There are a few good restaurants nearby in Kenmore and The Retro Bar is a good place for a drink and live music.
Both local primary schools have a very good reputation.
I find it easy to get to the Gold coast via the Logan highway and it takes less than 30 minutes to get to the airport via Legacy Way.
Overall, I would say it is a great place to live.

"One of Brisban's best suburbs for familiies"

Chapel Hill is a little known suburb 8km from Brisbane CBD at the foot of Mt Coot-tha. It has fantastic green space, walking paths, medical, and shopping at Kenmore and Indooroopilly. Chapel Hill is spoilt for schooling options with its own public school and access to some of the best private and public high schools (Indooroopilly and Kenmore) in Brisbane. Chapel Hill is less than 10 minutes from UQ's main campus at St Lucia. Infrastructure has been improved significantly over the past year with Legacy Way providing Chapel Hill residents access to the airport 15 mins door to door. Bus transport into the CBD and Indooroopilly is excellent. Large house blocks with some acreage and minimal units. Chapel Hill has all of the amenities of Indooroopilly and Toowong but with a better community spirit, larger house blocks and sensational value for money.

"The Loveliest Leafiest Safest and Friendliest Suburb I have ever known ...."

When we arrived in Brisbane 20 years ago we rented in a central location and spent 6 months looking for the perfect suburb to raise the family, to feel like a getaway on weekend, with the best environment that Brisbane could offer - we found Chapel hill and have been there ever since.

True - Chapel Hill is not for the adrenalin junkie or the night clubber who wants to live down the stret from all the action.

Chapel Hill is for those who love the bush feel, enjoy friendly and considerate neighbors and who like to feel they are away form the hustle and bustle on weekends.

It is a bonus if you love going for nice walks up Mount Cootha or enjoying parks.

"Charming & Child-Friendly Chapel Hill"

Chapel Hill is synonymous with quiet leafy streets, large family homes with plenty of room to move and a very low crime rate. It's only 9 km from the Brisbane CBD and close to public transport via bus or nearby rail stations at Indooroopilly and Taringa.

One of the key attractors of Chapel Hill is the very real value for money when compared to other suburbs. Many homes in Chapel Hill are low maintenance brick & tile surrounded by well established gardens and the suburb itself backs on to National Park. There are more pools per capita in Chapel Hill than in most other suburbs in Brisbane.

It's little wonder Chapel Hill remains a family favourite - as it is home to the very well regarded Chapel Hill State School and on the doorstep to Nudgee Junior, St Peter's Lutheran College, and the world renowned University of Queensland at St Lucia.

Nearby Indooroopilly provides the largest retail precinct west of the Brisbane CBD along with cinemas, hotel and restaurants.

Chapel Hill represents excellent value for families.

"Has to be the cheapest buyibg in brisbane for what you get and distance from the city. Put a 1 in front of prices for similar in Melbourne and Sydney"

A quiet relaxing suburb so close to everything Brisbane has to offer. Property prices here are very cheap when compared to comparable interstate suburbs and distance to the CBD and structures of similar quality. Prices here must appreciate - it is one of Brisbane's best kept property secrets and offers extraordinary value.
It is unique having Mt.Cootha on the doorstep as there are country walks and bush tracks to discover, walk the dog, picnic, exercise and unwind from city living. It has a very high per capita income and most residents care well for their property's appearance. Pefect for families. It is only a matter of time before this suburb experiences strong price appreciation.
Other features; two major shopping centres only 5 minutes away with major shopping centres in close proximity, extensive bike tracks, walkng tracks, dog friendly areas, best private and public schools, sporting faciltities, Uni. of Qld 10 minutes away, many restaurants, pubs and cinemas.
The best value up-market suburb in Australia - see for yourself.

"Some History about Chapel Hill"

Chapel Hill got its name from the Methodists church built on land bought in 1873 for $7.50.The original church was replaced with a modern building in 1955, and since then Chapel Hill has become a thriving modern suburb. Aboriginals were plentiful in the area in the early days of Brisbane's settlement. They camped around Mount Cooth-tha, and ranged over hunting grounds that include today's Chapel Hill. The Patterson family established a sawmill in Cedarleigh Road.

"A quiet leafy suburb"

I loved living in Chapel Hill. The streets are quiet and leafy. I loved listening to the birds in the morning. The only drawback to the subub is the commute to the city. Although in off-peak you are only 15 minutes from the city, in peak hour it can take up to 45 minutes. There are lots of eateries and supermarkets in neighbouring suburbs like Kenmore and Taringa. Indooroopilly Shoppingtown is about 5 minutes away and it's great to be so close to so many shops and a Department Store. Schools in the area are good and you are close to the Uni of Qld though it can be hard to get there on public transport. Overall, for the peace and tranquility of the suburb, I would recommend it - however think twice if you need to comute to the city.
