"Best place I've lived in my 65 years"

After coming from London to Melbourne in 1980 and being well used to a multicultural environment, Coburg is a breath of fresh air. It should be used as an example world wide as to how multiculturalism can and indeed works. Love the many choices of eateries, Coburg Lake and the picturesque Merri Creek pathway which stretches for miles. I'm dreading the prospect of having to downsize away from here.

"Melbourne's multicultural hub"

Melbourne's multicultural hub must be Coburg - If you cant the find a cuisine in Coburg, it probably doesn't exist.
Coburg farmers market and night market are a must to check out if you love fresh food! Enjoy old style entertainment at the drive in check in to on the many events and the Coburg Velodrome.
The people are very friendly and the streets are wide making it a great place to raise a family.
Three tram lines and two train stations, with easy access to Melbourne airport via the freeway getting around or getting away is easy.

"Brunswick with a suburban feel"

We live on the border of Coburg and Brunswick East and just love it here. It is quieter and more spacious than Brunswick East but still get a bit of its trendy and hipster style. Public transport is excellent and merri creek is at doorstop. People are very friendly and lots of them are long-term residents/owners. Lots of shops and restaurants. This area is esp. good for those who work in city.

"Dullsville"

Coburg doesn't have much happening apart from the High Street. The suburb is dull and not particularly safe.

Rentals in Coburg

"Overrated"

Coburg hasn't got much to offer, and yet seems to be highly rated by people. I don't understand why. It feels very boxed in, basically a boring suburban area.

"Coburgistan is fabulous"

Stop winging previous reviewers and cut the racist remarks. It's a Great, multicultural suburb where the old and the new mix well. Great public transport, funny old shops that have not been yuppified like Brunny. I grew up in London and have lived in some pretty "posh" locations over the years plus have travelled to over 30 countries and believe you me Coburg is a bloody fabulous place to be. I've been here 11 yrs and 5 in Brunny prior and have to say I would not want to live anywhere else - ESP the upmarket, soulless E suburbs. COBURG ROCKS!

"Coburg"

Safe and great housing. The council don't look after much for the quality of streets however the residents maintain the surrounding very well. In my 7 years observation and experience I have lived in a safe and good neighbouring.
Roads around Coburg library needs to be improved, walking with a pram becomes very hard. Shops in coburg should not sell outside of their shops on the street. The fruit&vegetable displayed on the street looks bad to the eye and eventually leaves a smell and catches many fly when you shop around.

The rates we pay you would expect the Moreland Council do a better job fixing the pot holes on the streets I guess they need to charge high rates so they can pay the1000 employees at moreland council.

"Mixed bag of a burb, but still affordable"

Slowly gentrifying with cafés & bars yet still has a Dimmeys & an NQR store. However, is becoming built up with many subdividing their plots into 3-4 townhouses on residential streets and even more so along tramlines & rail where multiple units being built & encouraged. It used to be a place where you could consider buying a home with a yard but is becoming more of a dream these days. Even if you do buy, there's no guarantees your elderly greek/italian neighbors place won't be turned into 4 townhouses.
Anything South of Bell e.g. 3 bed in good condition with a yard is typically $800k+.

Lots of hipsters moving north after being priced out of Brunswick so a lot of the older rundown houses are rentals to the hip & students. The smaller new units are tiny but a lot are now on the NRAS, making them slightly cheaper than surrounding but I reiterate they are real small.

Despite the mix and multicultural atmosphere, it is not a real friendly suburb. Maybe this is due to the fact that there are more subdivisions & units, more rentals. Older residents are mostly nice though there are some aloof or just darned rude. I really like it here but it would be so much nicer if I found it friendlier.

I've heard it can be a bit rough & ready at the weekends going out locally but I usually go into the city so can't comment. I have seen some idiots on the trains late but I guess that is not unusual for Melbourne.

  • Merri Creek parkland & bike trials

"Culturally presumptuous"

I've never come across an area with such a chip on its shoulder and as many rude people in my life, not all are like this but there is a general problem with this area.
I happily & openly go along hoping to experience different cultures & people who have understanding & compassion, because they have had hardship, but all I find is mostly negative experiences (I've given it 2 years). I rent here but I will b moving because of the above and because there is always a large amount of rubbish around the streets partly due to people not caring less for example junk mail that they never remove from their letterboxes so it blows all around the streets (a reflection & attitude of the area) they knock a prison down (negative/bad energy remains from the prison that also affects this area) but they only end up building more prisons (psychiatric wards in rows that face each other)
Peoples attitudes & the standard of food concerning quality & what's available from the supermarkets/shops/markets compared to other areas + cafes restaurants etc. is definitely a way to judge an area and this is low to average standard

"Coburg is my haven."

I moved to melbourne 2 years ago and straight into coburg. I am in love with the area, everything i need is at my fingertips. It is quite, but a still throw away from the hustle and bustle of its main street. The price is cheaper than other areas surrounding the city, but with its popularity its probably going to become more expensive. Im moving out of my current home and i dont want anything other than coburg.

"Multicultural"

After Living in South since we migrated to Australia in 1999 I never thought i could ever live in the North but when i started my business in Coburg everything changed, 3 yrs later we built our new home in Coburg North. I love being so close to my work, Airport and the city. Being Muslim there are so many options for Halal dining and a huge variety of multicultural food and the two Mosques nearby.

"Best place to live"

I've been in and out and now finally back in for ever in Coburg, raising my family. I love it and it will only get better. Best place to live, bring up a family, ride your bike, walk your dog or catch transport to anywhere in Melbourne! Forget the new Northcote...This will be the new Carlton/Fitzroy/Brunswick.....and still affordable.....for a little while anyway!

"Coburg - Inner City Quality"

Only 7ks from the city - Coburg enjoys 3 tram lines and 2 train lines plus easy access to the Calder freeway. It aslo boats parks reserves plus the merri creek. Coburg is a large selection of restuarnants cafes and shopping. Its has a great ethnic chic to it - witness Sydeny road on Saturdays. Coburg has a wide variety of living with big block housing to 1 bedroom units. It has performed verry well in terms of capital growth - but still remains good value. Coburg also has excellent amentities with cable broadband and foxtel available.
