Reviews of Kelvin Grove, QLD

"Fantastic suburb"

Highly under rated suburb, I think because it’s a small suburb it gets overlooked.
Kelvin Grove is so close to the city but still has a leafy suburb feel. I can walk or cycle into the CBD for work or catch a bus in 10min.
KG Urban Village and Saturday markets are down the road.
Newmarket Village is also close by. Paddington is a 5min drive. Lovely leafy parks nearby and lots of cycling tracks.
Walking distance to some great cafes.

Looking for a home in Kelvin Grove?

"Good if you attend the uni or the highschool"

It's a fine area to live in if you attend QUT or the Kelvin Grove High School. The parking is not great, even though I in Kelvin Grove and have parking outside my home pesky uni students would swoosh in and take my parking spot when I am away which is very annoying. The hilly area is also not ideal for those who like to exercise and run outside. But it is good as the shops are near and it's a short walk to the education establishments.

"Great access to the CBD and major arterials"

This is a great family suburb. Close to everything and major infrastructure is about to commence including Metro rail and redevelopment of the Victoria Park Golf course into a great green space for the whole family.

"A great suburb, so close to everything"

Having lived in Kelvin Grove for 5 years, I can only say great things about it. Where do I start? It is SO close to everything: The city, the valley, paddington shops, schools, parks, walking paths, bus stops etc etc. I live in a great street with fantastic neighbours. I feel amazingly safe living here, definitely the safest I have felt living anywhere in Brisbane, and I have lived in many suburbs. It is a great suburb to get out and about, I go for a walk every day and there are always lots of people out and about enjoying the gorgeous weather. We are selling soon to move to a larger house as our family is expanding and we are only looking in Kelvin Grove, I don't ever want to move from here!

Great for

  • Close to everything
  • Friendly neighbours
  • Lovely houses

Rentals in Kelvin Grove

"So Close To Everything!!"

16 hectares of master planned community just 2klms from the Brisbane CBD. The locals are diverse, with uni students, corporates, medical professionals and young families, there is a great balance to the area between living, working and learning.

I love the cafes, restaurants and shops, especially the Saturday morning markets - I never realised that they were an extension to the West End markets - the produce and the products are fabulous, I go nearly every weekend now.

It's a beautiful leafy suburb with wide roads, plenty of parks and parking and I can find anything I want within walking distance when I'm in the Urban Village! I would highly recommend this spot to buy or rent. I have only been spending time here for the last few months, but am really beginning to see the potential of living and working in Kelvin Grove!

"Kelvin Grove, the forgotten inner city address with excellent amenities and schools."

I truly love this area. You are with in walking distance of the city and the Valley if you chose or you can catch one of many buses that go past to both locations. It is a hilly suburb and may homes have views and great cooling breezes in summer. Local pubs, shops, restaurants are excellent with a massive choice. The local school has an excellent name and many links to the Uni which is also located in the suburb. There is a local golf course, hospital and uni on your door steps. You have easy access to all areas of Brisbane via the many new major roads and tunnels that make getting around easy. You have two major sporting grounds with in walking distance and you have some so many options for food and every day shopping you are spoiled for choice. The urban village is great but there is so much more to the suburb. It is a great little secret that is only 2 suburbs from the hart of the city.

"Student Heaven with a Grown Up Vibe"

Kelvin Grove has none of the grotty student feel to it that many university towns or suburbs tend to. It's leafy and has wide streets, but with such proximity to the Valley, it hardly adds up. Many of the houses have some form of historical value and beauty and yet are the more affordable option compared to the surrounding suburbs. Public transport is excellent thanks to the Queensland University of Technology and it's hordes of students commuting daily. The campus itself is in the middle of the suburb, but is architecturally attractive with loads of green spaces. Herston Road is the place to be if you're looking for cheap units to rent.

"A rather trendy place to live on the outskirts of Brisbane central, near QUT."

Kelvin Grove is a small suburb, but densly populated on the outskirts of Brisbane central and in the vicinity of Qld University of Technology and Royal Brisbane Hospital. The area has access to all facilities that a city has and is a very strong rental area for workers in the city which is within walking distance.

There are large parks nearby, some quite magnificent architecture and with so many of the earlier homes of Brisbane here, there is an atmosphere all of its own. Many of the older homes have been renovated and are quite striking.

There are some main roads through the area though which can be noisy, as would be expected in a suburb so close to a large city. Many of the local streets are quite narrow and also many cars have to be parked on the street.

I mean to say, who put a horse and cart in a garage? So why would you build a garage in those early days?

There are many different nationalities living in the area and this is brought about by the university and its overseas students and also the fact that migrant workers can walk into the city for employment.

Beautiful old trees line the streets and are plentiful in the parks which makes this area very attractive from that point of view.
