Reviews of Kuranda, QLD

"Heart breaking"

We unfortunately bought a home in Kuranda had we off been renting we would of left in the first week,
Every time it rains I hope it rains body wash to clean the village and the locals. Kuranda does no favours for the Skyrail or Kuranda scenic railway it needs a devolved to come and clean up the place at 4pm the village is a ghost town by 7pm the last shop closes.
Take out fish and chips or pizza both overpriced and not good.
One supermarket food works ripping off the locals and the quality is disgusting.
More stray dogs than locals walking the streets.
Centrelink needs to get on to this issue Kuranda has so many people hiding out from life and responsibility.
Kuranda community pages on Facebook are just fighting and keyboard warriors.
Local areas as soon as you say you live in Kuranda they turn they’re nose up and say oh no I am actually embarrassed to say I live in Kuranda.
It has been a year from hell having to live here.
Trying to get workers and people don’t want to work.
Supermarkets/ one bit very expensive
and poor quality
Transport a bus every now and then.
Eating dinner out not possible
Stray dogs soooo many
Mareeba shire couldn’t care less about Kuranda
It is truely heart breaking that places like this still exist in this day and age.

"Hidden Gem"

Kuranda is the little hidden village at the top of the range, above Cairns, full of interesting people and homes, amazing rain-forest and animals. It's always green and a great place to live.

Great place for families living a lifestyle enviroment plenty to see and do 25minutes to Cairns and beaches
A number of talented artistes have their own co-operative shop
The range road is not a milestone if you drive in accordance with the rules of the road

"great place to achieve work life balance"

I have run my home based business in kuranda for over 10 years. I can get most services in Kuranda or Mareeba and only have to go to Cairns tp catch a plane. Being self employed I can join in sporting groups such as tennis and Yoga all with a 5 minute walk of home. I can walk or use the cycle track to get into the village. I use the local bus services most of the time to get to and from the airport. My work is in Australia and overseas. If I need time out I go for a bush walk and recharge. I personnally enjoy the tree linned drive up the range - its smell and the chance veiwing of a cassawarry

Rentals in Kuranda

""The rainforest is stunning, pity about the tourists""

Was once an interesting little village full of creative artists that is now a tired old tourist trap with shops full of cheap Chinese junk. The surrounding rainforested ranges are beautiful although they are largely ignored by the throngs of Asian visitors. Many of the roads in the area are poorly maintained and constantly used by far more traffic than they were designed for.

Great for

  • The large tracts of amazing rainforest full of rare animals and insects.
  • Seeing loads of butterflies flying around every day of the year.
  • Cooler temperature than near-by Cairns in the hot summer months.

Not great for

  • Everything goes mouldy, no matter how well you store it.
  • The large number of disfunctional and disadvantaged families in the area.
  • Having to drive up and down the Kuranda Range to get to the shops.
