"Great Eastern Suburb"

Maroubra is located 10 km South of the Sydney CBD, part of the Eastern Suburbs region. It is 15-20 minutes to the CBD in non peak hour. It is a very safe and convenient suburb. Very close to the beach, Eastgardens shopping centre, Bondi, UNSW, Coogee and CBD. I have lived in Maroubra all my life and love it!

Not great for

"All that glitters is not gold."

5 months there and I left. BEAUTIFUL BEACH .Love the feral foxes and sunsets on rhe beach..Beware of the many public housing tenants on Portland Cres. And parts of Malabar Road. Private residential tenants are nice. Mostly young population... Expensive rentals in the private sectors.

The large number of DOH tenants wrecks the place.

"What is there not to like."

Maroubra, been here for 18 years after moving from Randwick. Timing was perfect, family was growing up .....the beach , parks , coastal walks , 4 golf courses , plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance or a 5 minute drive , close to the airport, the list goes on. If you don’t know much about the area, it’s because the residents want to keep it to themselves ....a bad review is a good review, if you know what I mean.

"Wonderful relaxed eastern suburb gem"

We lived in Bondi for many years and moved to the Bra in 2018. Best decision we ever made. Maroubra is friendly, has a gorgeous expansive beach and has a super relaxed beachy vibe. There are a multitude of shops everywhere - and you can easily park at all of them! (This is unlike any other eastern suburb and actually reduces a lot of stress) and there’s space everywhere. There is a bit of a dodgy part (stay away from the American-named streets As they are housing commission) but that is just a few streets and the rest of it is families and oldies and young professionals. Transport to the city isn’t bad either (around a 30-45min bus ride depending on where you live). If you’re looking for an eastern suburb where you can relax by the beach and raise a family Maroubra is the go.

"Beach Beach and more Beach."

Great Beach, open spaces and consistent surf. Fishing is excellent around the area along the beach and rocks. Nice walks along the coast and headlands. Nightlife is not happening so you have to go elsewhere but that is a bonus. Superb Eastern Suburbs bus services into the city and surrounds. POW hospital is close by as is the Football Stadium, Cricket Ground, Centennial Park and Randwick Racecourse to name but a few. Easy access to the airport. Cheaper than Coogee and Randwick for Realty.

When you live at Maroubra, you only leave the area for work or holidays.

I must mention the reported poor reputation of Maroubra re youth and public housing. This has been a problem in the past but over the last few years, a lot of effort has been put into clearing up the mess and this work has paid off. The closure of the hotel at the beach has been a real bonus as well.

"GREAT PLACE TO LIVE"

I own an apartment on Marine Pde. Have lived in Maroubra since 2005. Love it! The beach is my courtyard. Great during summer but can get quite congested. Beautiful beach which attracts many surfers, local & tourist.
Randwick council does a great job looking after the street and streetscape.
Could do with better shops down by the beach but the currents shops are good. Shop owners are very friendly.
I love Maroubra beach!

"Pleasant Maroubra"

The Sydney beachside suburb of Maroubra is 10 kilometres south east of the CBD, in the local government area of the City of Randwick and is part of the Eastern Suburbs. It is bounded by South Coogee to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the east, Malabar and
Matraville to the south and Pagewood to the west. It has a population of over 26,000, 18% of whom are under 18 and 21% of whom are over 60.

Maroubra Beach stretches for about a mile on Maroubra Bay. There are two surf clubs located in Maroubra and Maroubra Beach was the second Australian beach to be added to the National Surfing Reserve. It is a very popular and safe swimming area.

Maroubra Junction is the location for one of the main shopping precincts in the area. The new Pacific Square is in Maroubra Junction. There are other shopping areas in the suburb notably the South Maroubra shopping village near the beach.

House prices are not as high as those of some of the neighbouring suburbs with the average price of houses being about $850,000. Nearly 40% of the properties in the suburb are rentals.

Children are well catered for in Maroubra. There are two high schools and two primary schools as well as a secondary private school run by the Greek Orthodox Church.

Maroubra is a very popular suburb with lots to do and see.

"Maroubra - Great place for the Young"

Maroubra is a beach side suburb of Sydney and is well known for its great beach. This long beach in an arc shape is a favourite for surfers yet is patrolled and has some safe swimming areas between the flags. There is a promenade that stretches the length of the beach and is a favourite for walkers. Opposite the beach is the Maroubra Seals Club which offers cold beer, spirits and soft drinks, gym and pool, bistro and restaurant as well as live entertainment. There are a number of fast food outlets and shops along the foreshore. Further up the road at Maroubra Junction there are major shopping malls, hotels, motels and restaurants. Maroubra’s close proximity to Sydney CBD makes in an ideal place to live although house and rental prices are getting quite expensive.

"Nice and convenient suburb"

Maroubra is about a thirty minutes’ bus ride from Sydney via Anzac Parade. There are many buses that service this area and you will never have to wait too long to hop onto a bus that will bring you to your destination. Unfortunately, for those who like to travel by train, this will not be a suburb of your choice. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes in Maroubra. Additionally, it is only two stops away from Eastgardens Shopping Centre in Pagewood.

There are many houses around Maroubra and lately, there has been more development and hence many more residential units around Maroubra town centre. Maroubra is also close to the beach. This beach is very popular with surfers and boarders alike; although it can get pretty territorial at times and fights do result at the beach.
