Bankwest quality of life rankings posted on the Age - Where's the UGC???

The Age posted an article this morning about how Melbourne has great quality of life based on demographic data compiled by Bankwest. The data compiled from a number of sources at local government's around the country and included factors such as home ownership, income, health, school enrollment and even broadband access.

What I thought very interesting about the rankings is that there is one thing missing...user generated content. Yes demographic data is important, but at the end of the day it's people opinions and thoughts on a place that matter the most.

It's like ranking a restaurant based only on the number of items on the menu. It's people experiences of the place that matter the most.

What do you think? Are the Bankwest ratings actually useful?

I love stats like these. Data doesn't tell you a noisy neighbour, or a busy street, or any of the day to day things we encounter when we live somewhere.

exactly melbournefan. You could move to a city based on these statistics and hate it. I'd much prefer to have people's indiviual opinions about an area AS WELL AS demographic data.
