Can anyone recommend some nice affordable areas for young professionals close to the CBD?

Melbourne (CBD), VIC 3000 is located within the Melbourne local government area, part of the Melbourne (Greater) Region in Victoria.

We are two friends, professionals, late twenties, moving to Melbourne and hoping to secure jobs. People have suggested Brunswick, Collingwood or St. Kilda as good places to live but rents seem high. Could anyone recommend good areas to live that are more affordable? We'd ideally like 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms for under $400

Hi, for under $400, Footscray or Kensington would be something to look at.

Thanks

You should be able to find decent 2 bedders around North Melbourne, Flemington & Kensington under $400.
