Can you help me choose a suitable locality in Melbourne?

I am in moving to Melbourne in few months as a migrant in the hope to find a suitable job. I have never visited Melbourne before and am single.

Can you suggest a locality that offers affordable stay. I prefer to live in a quite place as I presume most parts of the city is safe. I should also be able to move around easily to be able to visit companies.

An approximate indication of house/apartment rents would help me in my preparations.

Thanks.

Hi Rao, as it is your first time in Melbourne, if you have family or friends here, you can consider living with them for the first few weeks or months so you can ease into your big move to Melbourne. If you do not, I would suggest that you find a place with easy access to public transport to get you to job interviews, as you probably will not have a car until later.

If you are looking to rent in the Melbourne CBD, you will be lucky to rent a studio apartment for $300 per week. I suggest Flemington/Travancore, Footscray, Fitzroy or Richmond as all of these locations have great public transport access and lower rent.

Hope this helps.
