Melbourne in 2020

I'm concerned of late that we really don't have much of a plan with respect to the long term viability of this state.

Water, traffic, local industry, house prices - it's not looking good.

Poverty levels will rise. Traffic can only get worse once we add another million cars and house prices will boom yet again.

Maybe Melbourne is just growing too fast.

Do you see yourself happy in 2020?

Now that the Vic govt has expanded the metropolitan boundaries yet again and contradicted its own Melbourne 2030 plan (http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/melbourne2030online/) I think things are only going to get worse. We can't keep making the city bigger and spending more on roads. People need to realise that endless expansion is not viable.

it is a city that needs to and has begun to utilise more of the airspace for its current and future residents. Existing residents of suburbs may need to get use to the fact that next door high rise apartments may become a fact of life.
I do not know where or when i can foresee melbourne having a population of 9 to 11 million people

Higher density is the best option and yes, people are going to have to learn that not everyone can have a yard and space around them. Living in an apartment can be a great experience too.
