Melton, VIC 3337

I am actually bothered by a few ratings in this suburb review. They are undeniably dishonest. 2 stars for childcare? Melton has so many childcare facilities it isn't funny. 3 stars for internet? It is equal to Melbourne and will soon be one of the first areas recieving the NBN. There are options that are opinion and that is fine, but some of these star ratings are based on fact and the fact is people are being dishonest.

Anyway enough of that. I have lived in Melton for 15 years. I grew up here, and I know it well. Seeing as the suburb rating has seperate some sections of Melton such as West, South, Kurunjang and Brookfield I will try to focus on the central area, which is where I have grown up.

The first thing I'd like to say is that most of Meltons central residents have finally reached an age where they can affgord to put money into their homes, over the last few years I have noticed Palmerston street go from looking a little run down to looking beautiful because people have started putting the work in.
Anyway lets start with facilities. You will not be found lacking Parks, Gyms, and recreational activities. Melton has multiple tennis clubs, a great golf course, so many gyms it isn't funny, a fantastic all year round swimming pool, bowls, squash, horse riding schools, 3 football clubs, 2 indoor recreation centres and multiple soccer pitches. Hannah watts park is lovely and green all year round. Navan park icludes an off leash dog area, and there are many green spaces between streets which is great for young families. The high schools need improvments but the primary schools are great. Melton primary is quickly becoming a highly desirable school and many of the other primary schools have been updated in recent years. As for high schools we need upgrades. Kurunjang high school looks like it is being upgraded and Melton high has been under going construction works over the last year. If you want a catholic option CRC is great, clean and well taught. Mowbray is the private school option it is P-12 and they get results, it is expensive though and you may be better off sending them to Bacchus Marsh grammar which is a very affordable private school. There a lot of chilcare available in Melton so you will not have an issue there.

There is nightlife for the young adult, 2 Friday/Saturday night clubs and one Thurday night Bar/Club, it is also serviced my the niterider so late nights in the city are an option.
There are pleanty of restaurants and cafes, some better than others, and Woodgrove shopping centre has whatever you need. If you want more options Watergardens is 15 minutes away so you will be sure to get what you need.

I have never felt unsafe walking the streets, and I often see people out and about walking their dogs at midnight, so clearly they feel safe. You will see hoons from time to time, but it is nothing close to what you get in the Sydenham area. Sad thing is that all of that would be stopped if the police where making themselves seen.
The train service is really good in some ways, and needs improving in others. We are serviced by Vline, which I like because their trains are clean, comfortable and run on time. This issuse with V-line is service numbers though. Morning and afternoon peak are fine for commuting, but the rest of the day is 1 per hour. The highway access into the city is fantastic though. 20 minutes to the West gate bridge in non peak hour traffic.

All in all it is a great place to buy as a $300,000 will still double in 10 years.

Great place to live, 35km to Melbourne CBD.Doesnt deserve the negative comments..

Melton is full of downtrodden bogan who's and drug addicts who keep you awake all night wake up the baby wake you up when you're trying to sleep they are rude cut you off in traffic Party All Night Long police need to be called the lawns are unkept with car parts and stolen vehicles left on the side of the road avoid melting it is not a good place to raise a family!

I have lived in melbourne for 8 years and that time i lived in 3 suburbs werribee, moonee ponds, brimbank and recently last year i decided to move my family to melton south for quiet peaceful life...first week our car got broken into..i got security camera after..but, i wish i did my research about this area. The racism and pigotry i have received the year i lived in melton I have never experienced my whole 8 years in melbourne...very uneducated, white trash who seem to hate everything about life live here..most of the white people here i have come into contact are either racist towards people of colour or people of different faith..it is such a shame that i keep my kids at home and if we go out we go brimbank or city area to look for diversity and belonging, i do my shopping in brimbank or sunshine. Im afraid for the safety for my kids some days, as we get some verbal abuse from drivers on wilson rd while walking to school...i regret buying property this suburb honestly, ...melton is said to be suburb of young population with diversity..that's bulshit lie..the people here carry such a negative vibe and energy about them...they seem entitled to everything and anyone different isn't welcome.for the first time in my life i feel affect of racism n pigotry and it's a isolating demeaning feeling.other than the people, the environment is beautiful👎

A quiet place (but will be no more quiet as population here is growing up speedily). And from Melton, it's easy to escape to regional, farm such as Bacchus Marshs, Geelong, Grisborne shortly.
Not a highest safe place as there are robbies, that's true! But nowadays, they are spread everywhere in Victoria, not only Melton.
Another thing should be consider is council rate is quite high and keeps raising every year even they promise that they keep it not going up. Don't trust them. Council and police here in Melton are the most useless. Not many high quality restaurant, but not an issue as not far from Sunbury where lot of fine restaurants found.

Many parks. Leisure rate is still low. So, kids have enough place for their activities. Public schools are normally in average ranking but Catholic schools are higher standard here. Multi culture place. Majority population which is growing up fastest is from Indian, Vietnamese. Sudanese is also a most popular culture which could be easily found here.

Stay away from melton unless you want to be paying rates to 1 of the worst money grab councils. Glad to be out. You can also see a current affairs program did a story on the city of melton doing the wrong thing to rate payers.

It's bad enough that this place is too far from the city, but what really drives me up the wall is how bad the people are here. The people are so rude. They verbally abuse me or honk their horns unecessarily at me when I haven't done anything wrong while driving. They dump trolleys everywhere and litter everywhere, even in lakes with ducks. Lots of crime too. I've seen at least 4 instances of gang robberies in the shopping centre. One time a bunch of guys were looking underneath my partially open roller shutter until they saw my wife and ran off, which is just completely unheard of elsewhere. This place is just the worst. Filled with too many rude, scummy criminal types of people. It's almost unliveable. DON'T BELIEVE THE FAKE/POSITIVE REVIEWS PAINTING A ROSY PICTURE! DON'T MOVE HERE!

I have found Melton an excellent area to get in at the ground level - when things are just taking off. Yes, there are the usual challenges with being a relatively new area - with new suburbs, but all the signs are on the up. A great place for the first family home.

Melton is great value for money and offers you the best of suburban life and country living all in one. As the years go by Melton is improving for the better. Great value for money.

Having just bought in Melton, I can honestly say that some of these reviews and other 'bad stories' you hear about the place are just not true. Melton has everything you need and the only thing it really lacks is decent transport. Having said that, the buses run frequently and on time, and the Vlines aren't too bad either - they are usually punctual, however we could benefit from more services. I also feel a lot safer on Vlines as there are multiple conductors on there at all times, and the trains are so much comfier and cleaner!
Melton seems to cop a bad name for reasons which are beyond me. ANY suburb/city has crime... And the way people and media outlets make it sound is as if every second house has been broken into and robbed. I feel safe around Melton and it is a good area to raise a family. You're only half an hour from the city, half an hour from the airport, and only 15 minutes away from Watergardens Shopping Centre if Woodgrove doesn't have everything you need. I feel as though half of these reviews are coming from the South Eastern snobs who reside in Brighton. Melton isn't just a 'country town' anymore... It is much more than that. Not to mention you're only half an hour away from Mount Macedon and Gisborne, which makes a nice day trip.
There are so many daycare facilities, schools, shops, cafes... Even quite a few pubs and other nightlife. Even so, the city is half an hour away... Even Frankston is much further (try over an hour). All your mainstream shops are here (e.g. Chemist Warehouse, plenty of car dealers, The Good Guys, JB Hi Fi), so it isn't as 'backwards' as what people tend to think. There are also plenty of sporting facilities, parks, etc. Overall, Melton is just like any other 'normal' suburb except far prettier as it is surrounded by mountains and open fields (not to mention clean air).
Melton is a great area if you're not a sucker and want to pay what a house is actually worth, instead of being sucked into this ludicrous housing market.

I was born in Melton, I've lived here my entire life and I've witnessed the transformation of it in recent years. Melton originally was a cheap town with a Country feel that was a good distance from the city of Melbourne. Having grown up here, i can say the facilities available have improved immensely, we have a bulk billing healthcare facility, though the doctors are generally from third world Countries with third world practices, I wouldn't go there for anything serious. We also have good shopping facilities that have grown in recent years. Melton is still very cheap for families and singles alike, the major drawback is like most cheap areas, it attracts crime. The main issues are drug abuse, trafficking , home invasions, gang violence, theft etc. The local Police rarely respond to calls for assistance and if they do, it's late and often unhelpful. Safety is a real concern living here. Melton also plays host to a major growing population of Sudanese among other refugee's. This is a growing problem with the difficulty in cultures and lack of proper integration into the community, leaving locals dealing with the local governments mess. In my honest opinion, Melton is an option if you need to live in the western suburbs and can't afford somewhere nicer and safer

Lived in Melton and moved back after 16 years to raise a family. i find the area family friendly and the environment and air clean. I do not understand why Melton is avoided as it has so much potential as to me it is a mini city and i know it will become the most sought after once the transport system is greatly improved. It is a must as i know it is needed as many people commute to work, study etc if the council makes this happen both with the train and busses then Melton will increase in value and in population! People are friendly and say hello. Of course there are some bad eggs but so also are other areas in Melbourne. Melton has so much to offer. It has everything you need and want. I would vote very poor for no parks/playgrounds though as i have found in my area there is no maintenance and upkeep of the playground that is lacking fresh paint, no shelter from the weather and no greenery/planting of attractive foliage, in all not child/family friendly. I have also found there are no activities or exercise equipment or not even an area for dogs to be able to play/mingle which is also greatly lacking and needs huge improvements. Services available is satisfactory and new residents to Melton should be given a welcome pack so they can learn of what Melton has to offer as i had found alone and wished i had known when i had first settled in the area . It can also be a headache when walking as some roads are very busy and you have to walk all the way around just to get to the traffic lights to cross the busy road which i find is poorly planned as not everyone wants to drive but walk for recreation and exercise. I also found that although services are available for families with babies it is the distance to travel to get there is concerning as some mothers do not drive and have to walk and to go to mothers groups and is often avoided as means of getting there is an issue due to lack of transport availability. I love the fact that Melton is community based and has many invitations to groups services that is wonderful to know and be part of the community. Lighting i found around streets also need improvements as it can be difficult to see when walking at night. Big ants are an issue in Melton that i consider pests just avoid getting bitten when walking or in the playgrounds as i had discovered, but rare. Wish there was more done on improving greenery like planting attractive foliage around roads/roundabouts as all is see are gums, colour would be nice for a change. Over all Melton is a great place to live but parks/children's playgrounds and transport and street lighting needs major improvements to make it even better place to live.

Melton is a central area close to the High Street shops and bus terminal. It is made up predominately of older properties on good sized blocks.

I spent a few years here and there living in Melton as a kid, but moved away for around 15 years. I move back in a few weeks, and I have to say, Melton is underrated and it has lots to offer.
Theres ample shopping, great daycare choices, it's affordable, has great public transport, and is only 40 minutes to Melbourne. People who complain are being spoilt, because there is a lot more there than other towns, and it's close to everywhere else. I am happy to raise my kids here, and to live here for a long time to come.

Melton is a fantastic place to raise a family as well as for singles or even as an area to retire.
There are great schools, a great variety of shops, lots to do and easy access to highways.
Only takes around 30 mins to Melbourne CBD. Its probably one of the suburbs in Melbourne that is still affordable... for now! People are starting to catch on :)
I would definetly recommend Melton to anyone. I honestly and truly cannot complain :)

My husband and I just built our dream home in Melton over a year ago now. Very close to the main roads high street and station road. People here are friendly, if they are not, you may be out with the wrong crowd or need to work on your people skills.

We have a son in grade 3 and a daughter in prep. They enjoy their school and teachers which is more than what we could have hopped for. It as out biggest fear, you know kids and school.

Prices of housing here has also show a steady growth! So people may knock Melton but its where the money is!

Lived in melton for 4 years. Must say did not feel safe allot of the time melton is quite a rough area. Dont recomend allot of the schools either there were not very good. Shopping centre is ok and there is good public transport. But melton would not be a place i wanted to raise my children. A good place for lower income earners tring to get into the housing market although melton is the cheapest suburb to buy for a reason.

Melton is growing very quickly. Many think it is too far away from everything but they couldn't be more wrong. It is a 12-15 minute drive to arrive at Taylors Lakes and 20-25 minute drive to arrive at Gisborne. Around 30-35 minutes to get to the CBD via the Western Hwy which is accessible form all around the township. There is also a large amount of places around the town for everyone in the community and great public transport. Land is cheap, housing is cheap and holds its resale value.

As a growing community, Melton is 35km west from Melbourne’s central business district and its local government area is the Shire of Melton. In 2006, a census revealed a population of over 35,490 with the Melton Shire Council forecasting a population of 103,855 for 2010+. The Council also has in place a Strategic Plan (available via the council website) that will see the township grow. This includes works such as expanding of local shopping complexes, future railway works, improved protection of the townships natural environment and many more planned strategic improvements.

Melton is in a distinct geographical area bounded by corridors to the Western Highway of which are accessible from around the town. Members of the community have access to public transport via a short walk, major retail and banking outlets, food, health and emergency services, major home hardware stores, schools and other educational facilities and many more. Many of these facilities are accessible via popular main roads such as, Station Road, High Street, Barry's Road, and many others.

Melton is a growing suburb and from the large amount of data and research provided it is expanding rapidly!

Certainly Melton has had it's fair share of critcs over time, especially when it was an annoying town that slowed down your drive to Ballarat. These days Melton is a thriving town, especially around the Western and Eastern ends with many new estates. There are many schools in the area, including state, catholic and private and the town is reasonably well serviced by an integrated bus network. A V/Line service runs to the city and is mostly reliable however frequency isn't that great. There are some great restaurants in town including Chinese, Italian, Thai. I enjoy the many parks and walking tracks throughout Melton and recommend it to families looking to get into the market.

The more I visit Melton, the more I like it. It's really growing on me. So much so, that we are looking to buy a property there now. It's a nice, clean and tidy town. It has everything you need at an affordable price - including housing.

Melton is an older suburb that has never really bloomed. Melton at recent times has become more popular with the first home buyers and for the entry level buyers. Land is cheaper and land sizes are a bit more generous. Melton has all the required facilities however quite a distance from the city for the city worker and has no electrified train system. There is a very nice wave’s swimming pool and plenty of park lands. Shopping is average however new shops are always going up. Area has quite a bit of government housing and some very unwelcoming pockets indeed. Overall you cannot expect too much out of a small town.
