"Worst Suburb "Low Society""

After Living in and being raised in the St George area and the Eastern Suburbs decided to move and purchase a property in Mount Annan due to work commitments in the area biggest mistake I ever did. In general the "majority" of the inhabitants have no manners, rude and attitude of the lower class end of the population in Sydney. It is cheap to purchase property in Mount Annan and now I know why. Pretty and clean suburb but low class scummy people. To invest in Mount Annan is NOT encouraged as pricing/value growth of property is minimal also compared to other surrounding suburbs.

"Used to be good, not anymore"

I've lived in Mt Annan for 5 years. The traffic along Narellan Road is a nightmare, worse than ever. The whole area is becoming grossly overpopulated. The schools have way too many students and although they are building more shops, the overall facilities here are terrible. Too far away from the train line and the buses are rare, making it hard to get transport if you don't drive. VERY hot in summer and freezing cold in winter, watch your power bills living here.
Pros
  • More shops being built
Cons
  • Overpopulated
  • Poor public transport
  • Traffic
  • Some may find the commute to the city too far
  • Too many fast food outlets, tacky!

"Mt Annan - AKA Wedgedale. Great if you love fast food and no yard"

Once you battle the traffic along Narellan Road and finally get to Mt Annan, the first thing you will notice is all the fast food outlets. The usual graffiti is filling the small amount of parks. Don't even try to get a taxi in this area, they don't show up! Public transport to Mt Annan is also a nightmare. Schools are great if you don't mind 900+ students, terrible Naplan results and plenty of demountables. I couldn't wait to move out of the place.
Pros
  • Botanical Gardens
Cons
  • Bad traffic along Narellan Road
  • Too many fast food outlets, tacky!
  • Schools are over populated
markehme
markehme In relation to schools, the public school in mount annan is horrible. If you don't mind paying, there are nearby private schools that have a great reputation. I know this because I went to a private primary and high school.

I see bus stops everywhere in Mount Annan, and usually constant busses coming every 20 - 30 minutes.

Although, agreed, Narellan Road traffic is horrible. But has improved since two years ago.

"A friendly and affordable suburb with lots of parks"

Mount Annan is an attractive area that has been designed and developed from scratch for the last 20 years or so. The last land releases are almost complete (mid 2011) and the suburb is now well established. Mount Annan shops now have Aldi, Coles and Woolworth’s supermarkets and many specialty shops including cafes, medical centres, gyms, restaurants, florists, Australia Post shop, dentists, chemists, newsagents, and all the services you could think of, even a chocolate cafe. The bigger shops with large theatre complexes and big department stores are a 10 minute drive away in either direction (Narellan Town Centre to the west and Macarthur Square to the East).

Mount Annan is on the fringe of Sydney and really has the best of both worlds, city and country. The Australian Botanic Garden is located in Mount Annan (actually Mt Annan is in The Australian Botanic Garden, but is really a hill and not technically a mountain). The Gardens have a lot of picnic areas and is great if you love the outdoors. The whole suburb is excellent if you enjoy walking and exercising. There is also Mount Annan Leisure Centre which has indoor pools.

The people in Mount Annan are friendly and there are a lot of younger families, great for kids.
Pros
  • Lots of parks and recreation, space
  • Great neighbourly spirit, low crime area
  • Great facilities, no need to leave suburb often
Cons
  • Some may find the commute to the city too far
  • Can not walk to a railway station (too far)
  • 40-45 minute drive to beaches (but I don't mind)

"A good area for all ages"

We have fanstic neighbours and very good access to local parks and bikeways for the kids. It's nice to open the front door in the mornings and letting the kids feed the ducks breakfast!

Our Neighbors range from Young familes to retired couples who all pitch in to make the area fantastic.

Good support from the Macarthur Diversity Services people in organising get togethers and catch-ups.

This is our first friendly neighbourhood we have lived in and we love it.

"Dangerous suburb for families"

RustySilvertone
RustySilvertone gyrex, this review is not at all helpful as you have not specified why you think Mount Annan is a dangerous suburb for families. For anybody interested in crime statistics of geographical areas in NSW, go to www.bocsar.nsw.gov.au (go to the Camden map and scroll through the different types of crime, Mount Annan has a very good record by the way).

DaveandBarb Gyrex,

The only crime I have seen or heard about id the Wild Ducks keep defecating on my lawn.......

I'd like you to provide further evidence of the crime you speak of.

markehme
markehme Crime is generally low as far as I've known. I've heard of break-ins being the worst but that is again rare, and also common in most areas.

"Average suburb"

This is an average suburb of Sydneys south west. Mount Annan Botanic Garden is the best part of this suburb.

"Great for young families"

Local shops, schools, doctors, chemists, gyms, restaurants, takeaways plus the added bonus of the native botanical gardens.......all within easy walking distance. Once you get off the hustle and bustle of Narellan Road the whole suburb is quiet, leafy, tranquil, serene and so much more up market than some of the house prices suggest.
Houses are no more than about 10-12 years old at the most so the prospect of buying a wolf in sheeps clothing is small. The suburb is also well serviced by buses as you are located near Narellan road so getting into Narellan, Camden and Campbelltown to do shopping at malls and larger complexes (including an discount outlet seller which is like DFO) is a breeze. This also means that you are close to Campbelltown train station which is a major stop in the rail network and gets regular trains going into the city.
The suburb is close to the M5 turnoff which gives you good car access to Sydney for either pleasure or work. There is a TAFE, the UWS campus at Campbelltown (now has a medical degree on offer) as well as a number of private schools. If you are lucky enough to get one of the houses in the older streets you will also have the added bonus of lots of street parking as well as larger blocks (600-700m). The newer areas are more built up and the roads are narrower but as the houses are new I suppose you have the choice of what is important to you.
There are also a large number of ovals, recreation areas, picnic facilities, waterways, lakes, ponds and due to the botanical gardens, native wildlife and birds. There is also a major garden centre (Flower Power) as well as the Botanical Gardens plant shop if you love to spend time in your garden.
Overall I love living in this suburb and would recommend it to everyone. It is quiet, close enough to things that matter but far enough away so that you dont have to fight traffic and noise when you are relaxing in your house. The demographic is a lot of younger families so most people are really friendly and have a real sense of community.
Lastly there is great potential for investment in this suburb due to the reasonable house prices coupled with the fact that the suburb has not decreased in value since it was first developed. Now with the uni opening up medicine courses as well as the newer higher density housing there is also great potential for a good rental return

"A perfect place for the family to live!"

Mount Annan is 50 kilometres south west of the Sydney CBD. Regular bus services operate between Mount Annan and Campbelltown Station, which provides a rail link to central Sydney.

Mount Annan offers excellent opportunities for people seeking family homes. Most homes have been built in the last 20 years and have been designed with the needs of families in mind; typically, homes provide extensive living areas and a minimum of three bedrooms. The overwhelming majority of homes sit on very sizeable blocks - often around the 600 square metre mark. The suburb also offers a range of small residential complexes and duplexes.

Mount Annan has its own public school which educates children from kindergarten to year six, and its own secondary school, Mount Annan High. Tertiary students are within east reach to Campbelltown TAFE and the Macarthur Campus of the University of Western Sydney; both are about 15 minutes' away in Campbelltown Central.

Mount Annan Market Place and Mount Annan Shopping Village are home to large supermarkets along with independent butchers, grocers and bakeries. Larger shopping centres are nearby at Narellan Town Centre and Macarthur Square in Campbelltown.

It's hard to go past the Botanical Gardens if you're looking for a pleasant place to exercise, or to unwind.

"Mount Annan - THE area which offers EVERYTHING!!"

Conveniance, lifestyle, public transpord, shopping, parks, public schooling, child care, botanic gardens, pubs, restaurants, leisure centre (swimming pool) and a short drive to Camden and Campbelltown - No wonder Mount Annan's reputation has grown and to be known throughout Sydney. Offering a lifestyle to every age group and the peace and quiet many areas cannot offer, Mount Annan has a proud reputation of creating a Real Estate market of it's own. Property prices have held it's value through the good times and bad and seen a wide range of housing from $300,000 - $700,000 become available on the market for sale.
