Reviews of Mountain Creek, QLD

"Old Mountain Creek"

Mountain Creek (not Brightwater) is a very quiet suburban area with easy access to the beach (5 minute bike ride), walks along the creek in tropical rainforest, with friendly neighbours. The house blocks are generally quite large: 800m2 + As prices rise, unfortunately younger families are priced out of the market, but that does add to the quiet slow pace here!

"Brightwater Estate"

I rented a duplex home with my partner in Brightwater for close to two years before moving. Honestly, I am glad to have moved. Brightwater is an estate best for people with children and young families as there is a Childcare centre and school within the complex. Great and convenient for some, but an annoyance for others like myself. Kids play on roads, etc...

Community:
People aren't the friendliest but will smile if you walk past on a walk. There is not really a sense of community if you aren't a parent or child. There are some troubles with teenagers in the area who will do car stunts at any given hour. Neighbours can be passive aggressive and would rather complain on the Brightwater Facebook page instead of doing it face to face (didn't happen to me just something I observed). There have been some break ins, and theft of bikes but overall a pretty safe area. Dogs do bark ALOT though and owners won't do anything about it.

Cleanliness:
People complain about the dog droppings left behind by irresponsible owners but the real issue is broken bottle glass and rubbish on roads and footpaths. The shrubs and gardens are often littered with trash. The lake also has some garbage in it which is a shame. Garden beds are nicely maintained by council workers and there is a lovely footpath near the dog park behind the school.

Prices:
Rent is expensive. I was paying $400 for a barely 2 bedroom duplex. Decent house and yard but the price is maxed out for the 'convenience' of how close you are to things. Keep this in mind.

Shops:
There's a gym, secondhand store, pub, cafe, fruit shop, $2 shop, dr, alcohol shop, chemist and an ALDI. I personally didn't use any of these shops except the fruit and veg one which has pretty good prices!

Paths:
This is the only thing I really liked about Brightwater. The paths are great for riding bikes on and you can even walk or bike to Kawana, Mooloolaba and the Sippy Downs Uni.

If you're thinking about moving to Brightwater I would strongly suggest you check out their Brightwater Community Facebook page and have a scroll through. They discuss the issues, complains, events and other stuff that goes on in the estate. You'll get a better feel of who lived here, don't feel weird if you want to lurk their profiles..you'll be surprised....This place really is for families and retired people. As a childless couple in their later 20s from a quiet countryside area it just didn't feel right.

"Sparkling Lakes and Friendly Parks"

Mountain Creek just got even better with the now finished Brightwater Residential Estate. The new housing estate has added yet another lake (this one a huge12 ha in size) to the already existing 2 lakes found in the older area of Mountain Creek. The newest lake is stunning. It boasts landscaped walk/bike paths and large open parks and like the rest of Mountain Creek is only 3kms from the beautiful beaches of Mooloolaba and Kawana Waters. Locals love to ride along the cycle paths from Brightwater to Mooloolaba and have a swim and a lazy lunch at the beach. Being so close, you can't help but feel part of the beach and waterside community while enjoying the peaceful benefits of not having to live on the busy holiday accommodation strip.

Residents are also spoilt for shopping centres and good schools. The area also boasts a golf course and 2 taverns; the latest is the Brightwater Tavern that, for very good reason, is the meeting place of choice for many locals and admirers of quality and good taste. Located adjoining the lake with park and playgrounds the Tavern is a great place for the weekend catch-up with friends and family.

Deannacameron, It was written somewhere that nearby, Buddina is voted best spot in Sunshine Coast. That is because Kawana Shopping World is situated there and it has beautiful beaches and only 10 minutes up the highway to Maroochydore.

"A great place to raise your family"

Having lived in the Mountain Creek area for the past 16 years, I can honestly say it is the best place on the Sunshine Coast to raise a family! We moved to the area when our son was only 1 and he started attending Buderim Meadows Early Learning Centre ( highly recommend- Tina is still the owner 16 years on and plenty of familiar faces in the staff!) Our son commenced primary school at Mountain Creek State School moving on to make a seamless transition to Mountain Creek High School where he is completing Grade 12 this year. Mountain Creek High School is one of the best schools in Australia, rated number 2 in the world in previous years. MCSHS caters for all interests, with an International Baccalaureate program and Zenith for academics, a wide range of sporting development programs including Rugby League School of Excellence Program, Volleyball, AFL and Basketball and a Creative Industries Academy. They also work closely with the Tafe which is located next door.
I love to see the kids out playing a game of street cricket , safely learning to ride their bikes or scooters or a game of footy in one of the parks- a great, safe lifestyle where the rule can be when the kids are out playing all weekend, to come home when the streetlights come on- you always know which house the neighbourhood kids are at- the bikes on the front lawn give it away.
The community ( and competitive !) spirit shines especially at Christmas, with an amazing display of Christmas lights on Mountain Creek Road and many a neighbourly street Christmas party!
Only 5 minutes to Mooloolaba, 10 minutes to Sunshine Plaza or Kawana Shopping Centre , a Woolworths complex on your doorstep and Tennis, gym ,swimming centre and dance academy all in our area- I know I sound biased, but I am! I have loved raising my family in Mountain Creek and hope you enjoy the community as much as we do.

Love this... I'm a single mum of 3 thinking of moving here from melborne. This almost sells it lol

MamdoohM

I agree with kirstyw1 the above account is quite helpful I live in Sydney and can clearly see my 3y.o. daughter being brought up in mountain creek. I have a question though.....do you think that the new hospital precinct is going to really add value to the real estate there??

AliceS2

Sounds great and we are seriously considering the move but have 3 teenagers who are reluctant..,Any thing you can suggest to encourage them would be fantastic

MamdoohM, The new hospital is up and running now. It is a great thing to be close to a hospital, speaking personally as last year I suffered 3 x dislocated shoulders! I too am from Sydney - we lived in Kellyville and moved up here 4 years exactly. What I love about here is (I was raised in the northern beaches of Sydney) it reminds me of home. Almost every suburb is 5 minutes from a lake or the beach.

Alice, my triplets were in 6th Grade when we wanted to move. We bought in January that they were going into high school. We took our girls crying and screaming away from Sydney. withing two days of starting highschool (when they made a freind) all was forgiven and would now not move back to Sydney. I miss my friends and would move back home but I am 60 - hard to move at that age.

We're looking for a home to live in retirement in the Sunshine Coast. We're considering a property in Mountain Creek (Lurnea Crescent) and would love to have your advice as to its suitability for a retired couple, and whether the area is affected by the recent flood (2022).

Rentals in Mountain Creek

"Where you can really live"

I have lived and worked in Mountain Creek since 1987. In the early days the area where Mountain Creek High School and the TAFE college was an air field and you could take joy flights in a tiger moth over the coast and surrounding areas. Karawatha Drive was unfinished and it was a dirt road to get to Headland Golf Club.
I believe that the reason that Mountain Creek is such a desirable place to live can be traced directly back to the individuals who had a vision for the future of the suburb. Mountain Creek Estate, Mountain Creek Park and Mountain Creek Meadows were the 3 major land developments on the northern side of Mountain Creek. The people behind these developments (including myself) were motivated by the desire to produce a development that we could all be proud of. Of course commercial reality was a major factor however at the end of the day everyone wanted to create a worthwhile and sustainable community environment to be enjoyed for the foreseeable future.
Larger lot sizes, wider streets, bird attracting trees, environmental sustainability and a multitude of other issues were all considered when the developments were being planned. However the sense of belonging, the community spirit, the atmosphere of Mountain Creek today is generated by the residents.
My family and I are glad that after 23 years living in Mountain Creek we are still able to be some of those people.

"So close to everything you could possibly want."

Mt Creek is a lovely estate only 10-15 mins drive north or south to everything that you could want. Situated inland a little from the coast it is within easy distance of both Maroochydore and Kawana, areas that have it all on offer.

It is only a 10 min drive to the University of Sunshine Coast and the area boasts a very good primary and high school.

There is a local shopping centre which caters well for everyday needs and there are many sporting facilities either in the area or nearby.

Alex Headland and Mooloolaba beaches are very popular and again, are only a short drive away.

One thing that is obvious in this area is that the size of the house blocks generally seem to be a little bigger and this is great for family living.
