Ormeau is a great spot, a lovely community still with a village like feel to it. It has several new shops being built at the moment which has been needed for the area.
It is ideally situated between the coast and Brisbane but workday traffic to Brisbane between 6-9am can be very busy(allow 60 mins+ in heavy traffic), otherwise its 30 mins to both destinations.
Springwood and Southport are probably the closest spots where there are multiple car yards in operation at present.
Is definitely a family friendly location.
Whether it is the right location depends where he will be working. The traffic can be a struggle on the M1, and if working on the Coast you'd want to be closer to there. Ormeau is a very welcoming community and has things such as a bbq for new residents every month. Shop wise there are supermarkets and local stores. There are two pubs offering reasonable meals plus a few takeaways and cafe's. But it certainly isn't a nightlife hot spot more of a family area. I really would suggest you don't decide before moving, rather take a short term apartment lease while having a good look around. You might hate an area that looks perfect on paper. Car sales yards on the whole tend to be grouped in particular locations here (i.e. Moorooka, Springwood, Southport). The closest car sales yards to Ormeau are Beenleigh and Helensvale but there are not a huge number.
Good luck.
