Clarinda is fantastic lived here over 20 years it’s really developed I didn’t see the old drive in cinemas woolies library close by cafes lots of parks so much fun for the family safe at night.. very family orientated friendly neighbourhood very multicultural. Dingley bypass then Nepean Hwy you’re in the city within 35min.. depending on traffic conditions close to southland and chadstone shopping center and the new M city. Springvale not far great for food shopping and Clayton restaurants from all over the world. Clayton bowls close by too.. respect the hood and the hood respects you

"Ok for family life"
We have lived in Clarinda for 9 years and find that it's a very central location. If you own a car it you can access major shopping centres (Chadstone and Southland), DFO, golf courses, M1 freeway, markets, unis, schools, gym, restaurants etc. within 10-15min drive. So ultra convenient! But we have noticed a lot more trucks and traffic over the years, though traffic is probably an overall issue experienced by suburbs in Melbourne in the last 5-7 years.
Unfortunately there are unsightly tips in Clarinda that create terrible smells mainly during summer (happened a handful of times last summer). Houses are generally affordable for somewhere not too far from CBD. Another downside is the quality of public secondary schools in the area leaves a lot to be desired. There are plenty of private schools in close proximity.
Great for
- Low crime rate
- Friendly people
- Close to beaches
- Peaceful
- Proximity
- Shopping
Not great for
- Lack of quality public secondary schools
- Overhead electricity towers
- Surrounded by tips/landfills

"A nice area but not without some major problems"
Clarinda is located south of Centre Road, below Oakleigh South. At first sight this is a quiet peaceful area with quite a number of lovely streets and properties in and of themselves. HOWEVER... a few problems soon become apparent. The area is not well served by public transport. In fact there's just a bus that runs along Bourke Road and is of limited usefulness. Second, the suburb lies in the path of a huge overhead power line corridor, meaning lots of huge and very ugly electric towers dotting the suburb. Odds are that you will probably have a view of these from your house should you live here. And third - and this is the BIG one that drove us out in the end - the suburb is completely surrounded by garbage tips. This has become a huge problem with foul smells invading the whole suburb in the last couple of years and it does get to the point that you dread opening the doors/windows because of the rotting gabage smell that would hit you and penertate into your home. They say there has been a improvement recently that its not so much of a problem any more but in the end its a question of how much you trust burocrats to keep the landfill operators in line and accountable.
