"Underrated"

Lucky for me I bought in Durack 9 months ago, and since then my property has appreciated by nearly 20%. I didnt know Durack at all, not being from Brisbane, but when I saw the place, the surrounds and proximity to shops, parks, and public transport I was amazed. I feel like it's one of those places locals would say "no way" too, but for those who give it a chance, I think it has great potential.

Looking for a home in Durack?

"Close to everything, but oh so quiet."

We have lived here for 12 years. In this time, the suburb has flourished. Fantastic access to the Brisbane City and Southbank, with bus services every 15 minutes, upgrades on the Ipswich Motorway will make the ride smoother and faster. There are shops within walking distance that cover all the necessities, including groceries (Aldi or an Asian Grocer), fruit & veg, butcher, doctors, chemist, variety store, bottle shop, pub and takeaway fast food. We have had very little crime in our area of Durack, with a great lot of neighbours looking out for each other.
Close to a great Golf Course, and also an easy hop skip and a jump to Inala and Darra for some great Vietnamese food. A short drive to Oxley or Darra will have you on the train line into the city as another option. Oxley is also a great little Cafe Society area as well, with a Woolworths, coffee shops, restaurants, gyms.
Schools available from here are some great Government Schools, both Primary and Secondary, with school buses to Corinda State High and also the 100 buses to Brisbane City and Southbank passing private high schools like Our Lady's and St Laurence's. There is also the Australian International Islamic College on Blunder Road.
The 100 bus service also has stops at the front of the PA Hospital at Buranda, and also the Mater Precinct including Queensland Children's Hospital.
Places of Worship are located in Durack or close by including Vietnamese Buddhist, Jehovah's Witness, Citipointe Church, Sikh Temple, Catholic and Uniting Churches close by.

The properties are mostly houses, ranging from mid 70's builds on decent blocks of 600m2 or more, through to modern houses on a 400m2 blocks. There are very few townhouses in much of Durack.

"Great Suburb Near the City"

I've been living here from last 3 years now and have pretty much all positive things to share. Great connectivity to the city by bus and through various other suburbs. I live on the never patches but in general it's a very nice and quite suburb with great shops nearby. Would be valued a lot in 10 years down the line.

"Good suburb that's making improvements"

Durack is a good place to live in for everyone. Various shopping centres and major retail outlets nearby. I catch public transportation and I'm quite impressed by the bus connectivity. Route 100 every 15 mins throughout the day back and forth. One thing that I didn't like is the school not being the top quality one but apart from that everything else seems to be going well for me. Quite close to some great western suburbs and should see house prices going up in the near future in my opinion as it's one of the underrated suburbs.

"Affordable suburb with close proximity to the city"

I've been living here for about 2 years now and quite love it here. At times some shadey characters are visible due to the proximity to Inala but in general a good place to own if you putting your step in the property market for start. The shopping centres are nearby. Inala shopping centre with good amount of retail outlets and lot of Asian grocery shops. Dan Murphy's, Aldi, chemistwarehouse, vegetable shop, dominos , Bunnings, JBHiFi, good guys, Harvey Norman, McDonald's, super cheap auto and variety of other major retailers couple of kms away. The suburb is quite close to Ipswich motorway, centenary highway and Logan motorway so connects quite well with other suburbs. Oxley and Durack taverns are really good. Majority of the population is quite good but some refugee population spoiling it for the others.

"Has its silver lining, we need a neighbourhood watch."

Lived here 2 years this is my report so far - Neighbours are very nice and friendly, can only think of two who respond negatively to a hello which is fine as I say hello to many of the friendly neighbours. The new areas are good and hopefully Durack continues to develop maybe with a local shops would be nice as doing the shop at Inala plaza is never a task looked forward too; you get to see the effect of what hard drugs do to people, people go ballistic in the carparks, passed out heroin junkies in the trolley bays etc. A guy died once when I was there mowed down in the carpark at night which was really sad, also had to apply first aid to a man who was having a heart attack and collapsed onto me from behind, though I thought I was being molested initially. Also houses do get broken into the new parts as mine was, money stolen didnt get my car keys though. Two of my neighbours had their cars stolen too which is unfortunate. I actually saw my neighbour have his car stolen in front of him when I first moved in, he yelled at me to chase him down in my car but I couldn't Another neighbour had his house broken into at the end of the road, they broke through to his carport luckily he had locked the door that enters to his home locked so they only stole tools. The problem is the vermin of the surrounding suburbs come to Durack and treat it like a candy store. Furthermore we have no neighbourhood watch! I have been wishing this to be set up for years, even Inala has one which is ridiculous as we are often the target. The houses are modern but you can pick flaws with the quality of some of the workman ship, cornices splitting, gyprock not set correctly which leaves it unaesthetcially pleasing. My neighbour this week has also sent me a text to stay safe as they were attempted break in from being awoken to people slamming of their back door and windows. I do my shopping at Oxley plaza now which is a bit up the road but far far better atmosphere! If you want to live here get a dog that will protect your home. At night it is hectic as we dont have a local police force here and often the Inala police cannot attend crimes for days as they are overworked dealing with their area. I called them after witnessing an assault in the park and subsequent overdose and it took them 45 minutes to arrive, unfortunate again. Good things are its 15 minutes to the city which is awesome and no tolls, no plans of leaving but the suburb isn't the safest, I know it might sound daunting for people who want a safer area, some people dont get robbed here ever some people get robbed yearly its pot luck really. Excellent community though because we look out for each other as there is no neighbourhod watch and lighting at night is poor. Afternoons are good for community families reguarly come out to play. Very multicultural too which is good. Inala food is nice go during the morning market, also yes we do not flood regardless of how hard it rains no houses which is 10/10 even when you think its flooded like Inala when it gets underwater at the crossing on old blunder road. Bus commute for students is 1 hour plus though... If you like a neighbourhood that has it's rough edges but a heart for families this is for you. Oh yes also another negative is we are very close to Archfiend race way which do week nightly drift races and derby cars but you do get used to that eventually.

Great for

  • Good community
  • Commute to city
  • Local dog parks
  • 15km to city
  • Cheap area
  • Doesn't flood
  • Excellent value for money

Not great for

  • Target for criminals from neighbouring suburbs
  • No Neighbourhood watch
  • No local shops or eateries
  • Stigma

Hi there thanks for the information. What about being near archerfield airport? Do you hear planes all the time?

katydid

they are light planes, not jets, less noise, less traffic, and depends where you are on the flight path. This airport does have a lot of flight schools there too

"A perfect family home"

We really love living in Durack. It is a peaceful suburb with lovely parks for our kids and established trees lining the streets. It is situated near many major highways, so we have the advantage of being within easy reach of the Brisbane and Ipswich CBDs and major shopping centres, without ever having to hear traffic noise. We are also close to bus and train services which directly service the Brisbane CBD. The schools are within easy reach and provide an excellent education, and tertiary facilities like USQ and TAFE are within only a few kilometres. We are surrounded by young families and lovely neighbours, and we can't imagine living anywhere else.

"Durack is a hidden Gem"

Durack is becomming more like Oxley eveery day. I was told about Inala and was a bit concerned, but I've been here for 2 years and never had any issues with the suburb. My neighbours have been here for 18 years and never had a burglar scare ( how many suburbs can say that. We have a City bus 2 min walk from here, that arrives in the Mall in 30 min and runs all night on weekend ( no need for cabs) The only downside is there is no trainlines in Durack
We have some great shops close by and with Woolworths Richlands open now, the groceries are high quality at good prices. There is an awesome butcher P and N Butchers, near Aldi that is the best I've been to. and the prices and variety are great
There must be lots of people that have seen this, as there is heaps of development happening around here. The schools here have have lots of money spent on them, to do them up. Only a matter of time, before Westfield or someone buys Inala shopping centre and does it up
Close to the city, but prices that are normally 50 km from the city
This suburb is great fro Familys - big blocks and if you look hard enough, you can get a pool for the kids

"Newcomers to Durack"

My partner and I bought a house in Durack last year. Durack is an affordable area while still remaining reletively close to the city.
We have had no problems whatsoever living in Durack. All of our neighbours are very friendly and all keep an eye out for each other.
There is all the shops you need including a fantastic butcher and a very cheap fruit and veg shop.
Yes it might be next to Inala but its also next to Oxley, Inala has some fabulous Vietnamese restaurants where my partner and I often go and under $20 feeds the both of us, so don't be put off by the Inala stigma.
You won't be disappointed if you buy in Durack.

"its next to Inala..say no more."

ITs a cheap suburb. Lots of rental houses that arent well maintained. I lived there some years and there was plenty of spillover from Inala...stolen car chases ending in my cul de sac with Police sirens blaring, hoons, kids from the nearby school trashing houses for no reason, break ins, loud parties, and the noise from the Speedway on fri nights......good fun.

the local Supermarket at the Civic centre is dirty and grubby. the suburb is full of bogans so be preapred to hear your neighbours using foul langauge all the time.

On the plus side, if you pick a really really good street, its a fine place to live. Thats the key.

Durack is about 14km from Brisbane’s CBD. Over 63% of households in this area are comprised of couples with children, and 29% are couples without children. Stand alone houses account for over 96% of dwellings in this area, and townhouses account for a further 2%. Durack is only lightly populated and there have been considerable areas developed recently for housing. There are plenty of great dining options in and around Durack. If you’re looking for a local café, take-away, pub or restaurant you’ll find it here.
