Goodna, QLD 4300

I bought a house off Brisbane Terrace. I can't believe how down to earth and kind my neighbours are and that kids actually play in the street (closed street). The house value went way up in a short amount of space. I think it is a great area, close enough to drive towards Brisbane for work and has everything you need close by. I'm very glad that I was lucky enough to purchase here.

Its a big area, so there are some dodgy spots, but every suburb has those. Our area is full of large trees and bushland. We hear no traffic noise whatsoever., just birds. This is the first house we have purchased and absolutely love it here! great value for money. Close to everywhere

Bought in Goodna over 3 years ago and starting to see change around the suburb already.
Goodna is a great start for first home buyers with cheap prices not reflecting the type of house you can buy or that the suburb backs onto some of the most expensive areas in Ipswich and Brisbane such as Augustine Heights, Brookwater, Moggill, Bellbowrie etc where houses can set you back a million dollars and more.
In Goodna we bought a 5 bedroom brick house for under 400g, which is only 30mins from the city, 40 in traffic to the Airport, 20 to Ipswich and Gold and Sunshine coasts are an easy drive away with close access to all the highways for a trip to the beach or theme parks etc.
Goodna has a lot of potential with all the amenities you need in the suburb or close by and I believe as more home buyers or young families move into the area it will boom.
As others have said there is pockets that flood and those areas should be avoided but from what I can find out it looks like the government has indicated those areas for apartments or commercial spaces and developers are buying up those blocks already.
There is also plenty of work around the area if people want it. Big National and Multinational companies like Coca-Cola, Asahi, Coles, FedEx, Australia Post, Volvo etc have manufacturing sites or distribution centres around the area.

Handy to public transport, main roads, parks, schools, shops, doctors, after hours pharmacies, weekend markets. Great neighbours! Affordable living. Friendly community.

I have lived here for 25 years and have never had an issue. At present it is reasonably cheap area to buy into and it does have crime as do all areas across the southeast and the whole of Australia for that matter. But if you are wise and look at the long term prospects for this area you can’t go wrong buying here, simply because we are in the middle between Brisbane and Ipswich and with the Olympic Games coming to Brisbane in 2032 this area will increase dramatically and I have seen this starting in the last 12 months just in the street I live in 3 rental properties have been purchased by owner occupiers and that will only increase as time goes by. So I think if you are young and would like the opportunity to get into a house of your own Goodna would be a good investment. My only suggestion would be to investigate the street that you are interested in buying in and don’t buy in the flood zones.

Many people think that on the overall Goodna is not a good place to live and I thought the same before 2021. My partner and I started looking around houses in different suburbs since end of 2020 and we visited Goodna multiple times to observe the life here and we moved in Goodna March 2021. We eventually have got our home on Smiths Road and absolutely love our lives here. Friendly neighbourhood. Except 2-3 hours a day peak traffic, it's often quiet and birdsong everywhere. Expressed train in the morning to Brisbane. Bonus is that if you love outside cat, they will play in your garden all the time. I understand that this will be a little bit biased because I know some part of Goodna can be far worse off. We looked at houses on the Queen Street side of Goodna too and decided not to. Its a hustle bustle there and seemed to have more social problem there. On an overall, Goodna is very livable and very affordable but you will need to choose very carefully because it's not a no brainer task.

Too many really poorly behaved housing commission tenants with no respect for anyone around them. Basic terms of living in a public housing home are not being enforced by the service. Because of this there is a lot of negative and aggressive behaviour in parts of Goodna, many houses with grafitti, broken windows, covered in trash, and constantly noisy with profanity. These parts shift when tenants change.
The suburb could be great, it's quiet when people are not fighting or hooning, fast internet, everything is convenient with multiple shopping and highway options, and some great wildlife near the bush areas.
Can't be recommended to live here until the housing commission lifts their game and holds their tenants responsible for their actions instead of handing them more free stuff and services when they trash government property and make tax payers struggle to make it to work by partying until 5am every night. People like that don't deserve taxpayer help. I have lived here for 8 years, I regret buying a house here most days.

strongly suggest not to go for this suburb if you are moving from interstate or relocate from other suburbs.
At the moment We live in,GOODNA.
We have recently relocated from Victoria and obviously we had to book a rental property virtually, we did checked suburb ratings thought 7.7 ratings wasn't bad and also asked our property management as well about the street and neighbour but according to her review it wasn't a bad area at all.
(Obviously they just want the tenants, they won't say any negative, never believe in these real estate people blindly)
We have started counting down our days soon after a day we moved in to goodna.
Worst neighbourhood, lots of youngsters make lots of noise, raise their cars middle of a night. Most of the time they start partying even in weekdays till 4am or so. We literally cannot sleep when they do that, very scared, feels like they come and break things.
If you drive back home little after sunset they will be on road and They dont even give way to the cars if they were walking in the middle of a street.
Too rude and such a annoying bogans..
You can see Police cars more often passing through the streets every day.
Also anyway they can't do much about it..
Another nightmare is Our neighbour have 4 big dogs pitbulls and dingo and some other breed.
Most of the time I saw them breaking our side of fence and roaming around in our backyard. So scared to complain about it. Coz these people can do anything .if they find out as we complained about it. these people can come and even can harm us..
Cant trust..
Real estate people doesn't care about it. Even when is said it.
Apart from that its close to all shops, gym good medical centres easy access to the freeway and red bank plaza ,Orion mall ,spring field many things were just in 10 to 15 mnts away max..
Eat outs are good but not a place to go out late night.

Not suitable for decent families and kids or for professional peoples.
Please do not believe blindly or come straight away unless you choose this place personally, please do some research about crime rate and about what type of people live in here/street reviews .

Goodna was a suburb we never really considered living in.

However, a friend lived in a new development in Redbank Plains and said it was worth checking out the area on price alone - I went online and looked, and Goodna has two extraordinary things going for it.

Firstly, the Goodna-CBD express is a 30 minute trip. This is equivalent to suburbs we were looking at on the north side - Boondall, Strathpine, on the south side Coopers Plains, Ferny Grove to the northwest, and Hemmant out east.

That's not to say that Goodna is necessarily equivalent to all those suburbs. It certainly has a higher crime rate than virtually all of those those suburbs, but not as much as people might think. 15% more than Strathpine per capita, about twice as much as Boondall (which is a much more expensive and nicer suburb), twice as much as Coopers Plains, four times as much as Ferny Grove, and around twice as much as Hemmant.

I think it's a given to say that Goodna is not strictly speaking, as nice as these suburbs crime-wise.

That being said, Bellbird Park has a crime rate around that of Hemmant, Boondall, and Coopers Plains - the crime is extremely concentrated to the north side of the suburb where the shopping centre, police station, train station etc are - we live on the very edge of the suburb and find it is quite nice.

Goodna has some nice parklands and some very nice bushlands to the south, though admittedly the options for eating out are a little sparse and standard. The internet is FTTP for the most part which is spectacular, especially now during Covid-19. Shopping has Springfield 10 minutes away to the south and Redbank to the west, so you're not short on options.

But you also need to compare on price. For a house equivalent to what we've bought in Goodna (a nice Queenslander built from hardwood with no structural or termite problems on a 1000 sqm property), the same house in Strathpine is around $400k. Closer to $500k in Boondall and Coopers Plains. You are realistically looking at $650k for the same in Hemmant, and maybe $700k-800k in Ferny Grove.

You can buy houses like these in Goodna in the $200k-$300k range outside of the flood zones.

Speaking frankly, I was made redundant due to the coronavirus and if we'd borrowed the $700k-800k the bank had been willing to lend and bought in Ferny Grove we would have been in a great deal of trouble at the moment. Here, though, with one of us working reduced hours, we're completely fine. The amount of slack in our finances is huge.

The important thing on crime in Goodna is that it is consistently reducing, around 4-5% year-on-year. This is admittedly a slow process, and Goodna will never be the equal of more expensive suburbs on crime, but that's reality. However, gentrification is definitely taking off, and there are a lot of young professionals without rich parents or other safety nets such as myself looking at cheaper areas that still have good access to the city - can you imagine buying a house 30 minutes from the CBD of Sydney for that price? Try 3 or more hours!

I don't think I would have bought here if I had kids ready to go to school, but it'll be a few years yet before we have kids and then another 5 before they reach the school system - by then, I strongly anticipate the continued gentrification of the suburb will have made a substantial difference.

I am certain that in a few years time, Goodna will be recognised for the good qualities it possesses. Yes, there are a lot of questionable characters around, there is no denying that. The suburb is notorious for crimes, brawls (i witnessed a riot at the train station where everyone seemed to join in.) and strong police presence.

I bought in Cunningham Rise 3 years ago because the property was reasonably priced, and only about 20 minute drive to my work in Brisbane via Ipswich Motorway. My neighbours are amazing and friendly and it definitely feels home here. I am amazed how centrally located it truly is. Half an hour to Brisbane, few minutes to Ipswich CBD, 90 minutes to Gold Coast, 1 hour to Toowoomba, 30 minutes to Sunnybank and 15 minutes to Inala (yes, Im asian). I am spoilt for choices for shops, restaurants, gyms (I joined a couple. Lol) and parks (for me and my doggo).

I am patiently waiting for its gentrification, given that the surrounding suburbs have started theirs. I am also optimistic with the new mayor whom I hope would do right by her constituents, unlike the previous administration. I just wish that Goodna would also eventually shed its bad rep over time. Its a shame because it would have been a great suburb if not for this.
