"Our Kingsville Village"

We are a small safe suburb. A tiny pocket of lots of friendly neighbours with a mixed culture.
We are lucky to have our very own kingsville xmas carols and we rock Hallowean every year by far....All get involved.
We have our own Facebook neighbourhood watch, we have our weekend lemonade stands , we have house libraries (which is super cool) and lots of laneways were people have created artwork and murials to make them feel safe.

"Hidden village with loads of personality"

What an awesome inner west suburb. A great village feel with gorgeous homes and smack bang in between Seddon and yarraville. So much to offer for young families and foodies!! We moved from living in the south east holding our breath... turns out best decision we have ever made. Love Kingsville and the inner west!

"The Inner West's Hidden Secret - a pocket within the pocket"

I moved west about 12 years ago. Started in Seddon and watched the Victoria Street precinct area go from boarded up ghetto to one of the best eating strips in Melbourne. Had never considered Kingsville until someone drove me up and down its streets full of Edwardian houses which are now protected by heritage overlay and only 'destroyed' by the odd 'wog palace' from the 70's. We sold and moved the short distance. The streetscape is beautiful, the neighbours are lovely and the good eating and entertainment areas of Seddon and Yarraville are only a short distance away, as are local shopping centres, public transport and supermarkets etc. Yes, parking can be challenging at times but it is a gorgeous strip of Edwardian suburbia that has only just been discovered by the masses. Average block size in the prized heritage streets (first 5 streets including Queensville, Chirnside, Coronation, Empress and Wales) ranges from 270 sqm (ish) to the odd 350 sqm (ish). Still smallish, but bigger than a lot of the blocks in central Seddon and Yarraville. Developers can't move in, so you are not going to end up with ugly new build or townhouses next door - under heritage rules you must keep the front facade. However, behind the front door you can turn your lovely worker's cottage in to a modern family home. The streets and area have a lovely vibe and it is wonderful watching new people move in and restore the houses. I get a lot of interstate visitors who leave singing the praises of the suburb and it character, closeness to everything - my trip to the city for work takes 20 minutes door to door via the train. The only downside is that it is wedged between 3 main roads that are getting busier and busier. However, a series of one way streets and speed bumps keeps 'rat running' to a minimum.

Great for

  • Beautiful heritage streetscape
  • Close to everything
  • Great public transport

"Close to 3 train station, shoppings, CBD, Docklands, 9 mins to the beach. What more do you want?"

I use to live in the South Eastern Suburbs and also Southbank. Kingsville has a lot to offer considering its so close to so much.
Kingsville is close to many shops, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, parks.
3 train stations to choose from and all in 1 km distance: Yarraville, Seddon and Footscray.

Great for

  • Quality neighbouring suburbs
  • Yarraville Village

"Melbourne's best kept secret!"

Very affordable, only 8km from the city, close to shops, cafes and transport - an all round great place to live!
Kingsville was established around the 1930's so has a lot of beautiful Victoria weatherboard house in tree-lined streets, with a couple of small parks. Most blocks in Kingsville have a backyard and/or outdoor entertaining area. There are also some very large blocks, particularly on Kingsville Street and Edgar Street, many of which are now being subdivided and redeveloped as townhouses. There are also numerous apartment blocks and you can pick up a one or two bedroom apartment for a steal, so something for everyone really! There is plenty of unrestricted on street parking and Cruickshank Park is close by if you fancy an early morning exercise session or need to walk the dog!
Most importantly, it's walking distance to Yarraville and Seddon villages, Yarraville Station and West Footscray Station, as well as the Yarraville Square supermarket. Petitou cafe on Somerville Road is fabulous and Red Tomato Pizza is also very good!
We bought in Kingsville because it's a nice area but, surprisingly, it remains one of the most affordable inner suburbs in Melbourne! I think it's affordability is attributable to to the fact that it is a relatively unknown suburb. However, with the inner west becoming a popular place for young professionals and families to buy, more and more people will want to live in the 'the pocket in the pocket'!

Great for

  • Great parks in yarraville
  • Quality neighbouring suburbs
  • Yarraville Village

"Where did you come from?"

Kingsville? well actually it's always been West Footscray.
and the part over the freeway that was spotswood, it's rediculous to call it Kingsville!
But ok, if changing the name makes you happy, 'cos it does sound more trendy then west footscray aye? I think wes, kingsville, has improved a lot simply because of more community orientated residents then ever before.
the blocks though are small and the houses are squashed together, no driveways too in many streets, you fart and both neighbours hear it, but it's close to the city and all the benefits that yarraville and seddon have to offer.

Great for

  • Quality neighbouring suburbs
  • Great parks in yarraville
  • Yarraville Village

Not great for

  • Concrete Jungle, Few Naturestrips
  • Somerville rd trucks
  • Too many cars parked on streets

Incorrect! Read here. Kingsville http://www.emelbourne.net.au/biogs/EM00805b.htm

Some of West Footscray became Kingsville, but Kingsville has been a suburb for a long time (the area between geelong rd, somerville rd and Williamstown road)

Correction: Kingsville did become Yarraville or West Footscray at one point, the name was returned to the original name, Kingsville.

your talking about the time when we could of called the whole place cut paw paw :)
I was born in kingsville street 44 years ago and my address was kingsville st west footscray, about 15 years ago there was a group that tried to not only change west footscray into kingsville, but they also tried to make the west side of yarraville, kingsville! we laughed and it didn't go through but it almost did.
This is common around most affluent suburbs, they extend the post code area towards the better suburb, or in this case they just changed the name altogether using the name of the primary school as footscray had a very bad reputation, this was the way they could make it sound trendy, to any long term local it's always west footscray, but that's ok as I like the sound of living next door to kingsville then west footscray too! how does it go?
Ignorance is Bliss :)

Ahhmm, do you actually live in or near Kingsville? The suburb hasn't been renamed to make it trendy. It is actually a very old suburb that used to be much larger than it is today, but rezoning has reduced it to a small triangle between Yarraville and West Footscray. This is exemplified by the fact that Kingsville Primary School is in Yarraville and Kingsville Kindergarten is in West Footscray.
Also, I dispute your criticism that the blocks are small. Whilst there are some smaller Victorian blocks in the eastern streets, these are by no means tiny, particularly when compared with other suburbs in close proximity to the city (many of which can only accommodate terrace houses). The vast majority of blocks in Kingsville have a backyard and/or outdoor entertaining area. There are also many exceptionally large blocks, particularly on Kingsville Street and Edgar Street, many of which are now being subdivided and redeveloped as townhouses. There are also numerous apartments, so something for everyone really! Parking is not a problem at all and the streets are nice with plenty of trees, parks and nature strips. Cruickshank Park is also very close by.
We bought in Kingsville because it's a nice area, close to the city, shops, cafes and parks, but remarkably affordable! I think it's affordability is attributable to to the fact that it is a relatively unknown suburb. However, with the inner west becoming a popular place for young professionals and families to buy, more and more people will want to live in the 'the pocket in the pocket'!

born and bred in the area, 45 years, lived in kingsville st west footscray and moved to y'ville in 1971, it's always been west footscray, kingsville primary has nothing to do with it, the area has never been called kingsville in civilised times, last 150 years, go look at council records, kingsville is and always will be west of footscray, and called west footscray.
the triangle is boundered by footscray and yarraville, yep, so how was it bigger?
yarraville has always been and so has footscray, so where did the land go that was called kingsville?

yv3013

about 15 years ago there was a group that lobbied councl to change its name to kingsville, going by ancient maps, was done so because of the bad name footscray had, and would help the resale value, so voila! welcome to kingsville! that's all it was, post code is still 3012, which is west footscray, look it up, 3012 is west footscray and also kingsville, hasn't changed, just the name, at aussie post it is still in the west footscray break up.

You can't look up the local council records between about 1900 - 1935 because Kingsville was handed over to Werribee Shire to pay a debt.....talk to the local historical society. Also read the book about Kingsville. it was originally developed as the Kingsville estate by the Chirnsides (from Werribee Mansions)....one of the roads is named after them....The Kingsville Post Office was opened in 1915. 3012 postcode is also active for Brooklyn (our side of the train tracks).
