Reviews of McKinnon, VIC
"Good family friendly suburbs"
Mckinnon is quite a small suburb. It is however a suprisingly friendly area, close to public transport (2 stops to caulfied), fantastic educational schools (prep, primary schools and secondary college) cafe's, shops, heaps of parks including dog parks and a close drive to either Southland or Chadstone shopping centres. Close to the Moorabbin industrial area (great for breweries, auto mechanics, plants and pots and a lot of other businesses you can get better deals direct instead of going throug the middle men)
The secondary college is run really well and achieve great results with all ranges of teenagers and provide them with solid foundations post VCE studies.
The Glen Eira council is really proactive within its jurisdiction and support the community far better the a couple other councils i've lived in (i.e. provide inforamtion backs when your first arrive, constanly fixing roads, community events, festivals and interactive functions for both the young and old) and proabbly most imprtantly they recognise the importance of youung familes and provide a lot of fantastic avenues or support. Not to mention their support forthe older community as well.
all in all i enjoy living here close enough to all the action but further enough from the hustle and bustle and pollution of the inner suburbs of Melbourne.

"A great community"
McKinnon is a fantastic suburb for families to live in. It has access to public transport, where you jump on the train and your in the city in 20mins. It has fantastic parks and schools. Great cafes and shops, and pretty much all sorts of facilities needed for every family. Overall, a great suburb to live in!

really? i could think of 50 suburbs with better educational infrastructure and teaching methods. Not to mention the higher physical and mental bullying with childern and teenagers and a high suburb crime rate in Doveton & Frankston. Your telling overseas investors to purchase in racist Frankston!
However buying land to subdivide and build - well doveton and frankston are good cheaper options but don't confuse education with solid property investment returns.
JimmyJ1, Doveton or Frankston are not areas you would send anyone from Overseas to . Mckinnon on the other hand has got amazing transport options, local shopping and most importantly the Safety aspect.
School options are varied, Mckinnon Secondary is an outstanding school. Even the local primary schools are very good.
Mckinnon is an incredible suburb when you take into account the close proximity to Brighton/Caulfield, range of shops, cafes and premium public schools. The suburb also offers one of the best parks my family has been to (Allnutt park) in the South Eastern suburbs. The Mckinnon Bistro has recently been renovated and the dining area has class and beauty, the train station is the cherry on top.
Worst area in Melbourne
School over rated
A lot of traffic
"A fantastic place to bring up a family"
I live in a street just off Mckinnon village and absolutely love it. there are 3 gorgious cafes to choose from, and a great deli and bakery. At the other end of the street we have the North rd restaurant strip with many different cuisines available. The public schools are the best in Melbourne and there are many fantastic parks for the kids to play in. access to the city is great as well. 20 minutes down the Nipean. This is a fantastic suburb for families with Brighton beach an easy 5 minute drive.

I have lived in McKinnon for 3 years now and have generally found it "Not so Bad" The shopping strip at the Bentleigh end is good with much variety, however it is a little overpriced. I am an older resident and do not feel as safe here as I did when living in Caulfield. I live on a street that backs onto the railway line and have heard youths walking along the backfence, with serveral graffiti attacks and many evenings upsetting my dog I prefer the quite streets of Caulfied. On the plus side I have a wonderful neighbour.
McKinnon is not worth the money to get into to. Not recommended for oversea buyers now
Looking at options in Victoria for education.
For overseas investors now looking at McKinnon for education, I would look
Elsewhere. Schools overcrowded. No playgrounds and portables across the road.
It is over hyped and better looking at doveton or Frankston for the top schools.
Don't believe all the hype.
Frankston and doveton is worth looking into. Great education opportunities, fantastic infrastructure
And nice houses.
Hope that helps.
