A 'Nest in the Hills' is the exact way to describe such a beautiful place where I was born and bred. A great town with heart, spirit and soul. While still keeping to the country aspects of working hard together and getting your hands dirty it grasps on to the city life having not much of the hustle and bustle but more the unique-ness of quality stores professional people surrounding you, while watching that great big cattle truck come though the main street, sipping on the coffee and then walking down through the lucious green parks.Everthing is with in distance and is never a hastle. I remember riding my bike around these streets & playing on the swings in the rocket park and all I can say is MUDGEE I CANT WAIT TO COME BACK.

Vibrant town of 8500 located only 3.5 hours West of Sydney. The wide main streets are home to trendy cafe's and chic retail shops to rival larger centres.

Be greeted by a smile as you pass locals and relaxed visitors alike in the township, weekly farmers markets are a popular event showcasing local produce. An abundance of local vineyards feature celllar doors to sample.

Mudgee regularly hosts large events such as 'A Day on the Green', "Wine Wings and Wheels', Wine Festival and hold 7 race meetings a year that prove extremely poular.

A variety of housing is available to suit all budgets. The expanding Mining Industry located well out of town has brought many new faces to town and also provided locals with an oportunity to enter the industry.

Mudgee......a great place to live!

I've only been in Mudgee 4 months now and was hoping to make it my new home but unless you're earning miners money or higher here there's just no possibility of actually having a place to live and put food on the table.
I earn slightly more than the national mean wage yet when that isn't enough to cover the exorbitant rents here.
A nice little town, although for the size of the place I'm disappointed there's not more to do other than drink booze or coffee.

Most of the fake five star reviews given by real estate on this site. Poorly managed by council, average food quality, over crowded school, drug issues rising, medical centres are expensive, new hospital is good but
not enough for Mudgee and
surrounding population. Beautiful country town doesn’t look like anymore country town.

Mudgee is a surprising place that has o much to offer. The magnificent landscapes surrounded by stunning mountains is the beginning of an adventure. Vineyards all around, wonderful places to stay, all a bit different from each other. Old world history to entertain and delight. Mudgee's neighbouring towns all unique Gulgong, Lue, Rylstone and Kandos showing open spaces and beautiful country drives. Mudgee is a perfect place to fall in love.

We are moving to Mudgee early next year and I tried to join the Facebook community groups and explain my situation and how I’m after some information about the town before I get there. I was rejected numerous times I asked the admins why as I am in fact moving there and need some information before I come and no replies.

I guess the reviews about the locals being rude are correct and quite frankly it’s making me think I’ve made a bad choice by choosing to move to Mudgee.

I also emailed the school about enrolment for next year, no reply either.

Seems it is full of a lot of rude people.

I have been a local my whole life and genuinely enjoy calling Mudgee home.
If you enjoy dining out, scenic walks, and boutique shopping this is the place for you.
We have great schools, a brand new hospital, and local events every weekend.
Come for a visit and fall in love with our township.

Interesting reading here. Are there any less subjective views about Mudgee? I have only driven through the town, worked there twice, and stopped off with the family twice, so I couldn't really form an opinion. On the surface, I did find it charming and fairly well healed as far as services and shopping were concerned. Having done school and national service in regional towns and centres at various stages of my life, I can understand some of the comments about clique - y locals and rudeness, which would spoil anyone's - especially newbies - first and ongoing impressions. No excuse for it! But I'm sure there must be more to the place. If one is young, I can also understand the boredom aspect, but this is not Sydney. Also, I'm looking at Mudgee as a retirement option. Let us know thoughts. (Doctor appointments comment raised my eyebrows).

Noticed a few new reviews about how locals won't talk to non locals. Same as in 2010 when I left. If you want to live in a nice place, move to Orange. There is work, nice locals. Just don't buy/rent on the east side of town> I did unfortunately, which is why I left. Great town though.

Mudgee is the place you grow up calling home and never want to leave. It has everything you could possibly need without the big city drama and if you like food and wine, you'll fit in just fine.
