Reviews of Rosny, TAS
"Great location for all things food, clothes etc"
I wouldn't live here anymore as there is suburbs nearby that will outperform, but it is good for all my needs. Definitely a better environment than on the other side of the bridge
"The perfect Hobart suburb to raise a family"
I'm so glad we chose Rosny when we moved from Melbourne to Hobart in 2022. It's six minutes easy drive to Hobart city centre, two minutes drive to Tasmania's largest shopping centre (Eastlands) and walking distance along waterfront tracks to Bellerive and Lindisfarne villages for great coffee and restaurants. The school in the neighbourhood is Montagu Bay Primary, one of the best rated schools in Hobart. Within Ronsy there are many parks and nature reserves to choose from within a five minute walk from our house. The views around Rosny of the River Derwent, Tasman Bridge, Hobart city and Bruny Island are spectacular. Our neighbours and the people we pass walking around have always been polite and friendly. We don't ever see ourselves leaving!

"A great place to buy for capital growth"
Most of the houses in Rosny were built in the early 1960s. Almost all of the blocks have a covenant from the original subdivision meaning only one house can be built on each lot and no business of any kind can be conducted on the land. This means the houses will always be large family homes for professionals, rather than the suburb transitioning to higher density and more affordable units like neighbouring suburbs. The views in some parts of the suburb are amazing, particularly at the higher end of Kellatie Road and Leura Street.

"Quiet but beautiful"
Rosny really surprised me. It has magnificent views. Rosny Hill has some lovely walks along with the glorious Clarence foreshore walk. Mostly 1960s-1970s architecture which mean the blocks of land are larger than average.
Despite being so close to the Hobart CBD, the suburb is so quiet.
I have lived here for a while and and really glad that I took the opportunity to live here when I could.

"Rosny is good if you like being alone"
An un-friendly, commuter suburb, with no community spirit, the sewage treatment plant stinks when on cyclepath, the footpaths are either non-existent or lack maintenance. It would be a great suburb for people who drive everywhere and don't like people. I lived in Hobart and I felt safe on the streets and could walk to the shops and talk to neighbours, Rosny is the opposite, you have to drive everywhere no shops or cafes, that is why I left and moved back to civilisation.
Great for
- Has good access to the foreshore
- Decent parks
- Wildlife
Not great for
- No transport
- Must have car
- Not family friendly

We are a young couple in our 30's and recently moved to Rosny. In the first week of moving in, our neighbours invited us over for drinks! Which definitely didn't happen in our former locale. Rosny is a beautiful suburb, we have lovely views of the Derwent and also Mt Wellington. There are numerous coastal paths to walk and the streets are tidy.. but I will admit some footpaths could do with a spruce up! It is a very quiet suburb (but who wants noisy!). You can easily walk to Bellerive and Eastlands shopping centre so I don't necessarily think you need a car - I don't have one! You can also walk to one of the best primary school's in Hobart (Montagu Primary). Nearly forgot all the great sporting facilities such as the indoor swimming centre, tennis centre and ovals. Rosny has everything you need. We love it here!
Having lived in Rosny for 30 years I must reply to the above comment. Rosny would be the best suburb in Hobart to live, close to all the amenities and the neighbourhood is very friendly - if you are friendly. We are discerning! I grant that the council can improve some of the pathways - just as other councils can improve their roads and pathways. We are close to the best primary school in the south and Clarence pool - great place to bring young children up. The sewage will now smell on occasions in the summer - but only since Southern Water has taken over, there is something in that. Coastalflower I think you have your blinkers on. I enjoy champers with my neighbour on quite a few occasions but never borrow a bowl of sugar, we don't do that in Rosny!
