Moving to Qld from Sydney towards end of this year. Need advice in best/worst areas

Hubby is a site manager for residential homes, have 2 teens and two pre teens so needs to have things for them local, one daughter does comp cheer, so needs to be within driving distance of that plus be close to beaches, or on a canal... and near good schools, Don't know Qld at all so top suggestions to meet all our family needs.. or would gold coast be better suited???? thanks
