Reviews of Sydenham, VIC
"Great suburb, but slowly deteriorating"
Have raised my family here for five years.
Love that it's a safe and family friendly suburb, and close to public transport with a thriving local shopping/community hub.
Over the last year or so, a lot of homes have sold and a new cohort of people have moved into the area.
Since then, there have been small but cumulative changes that are changing Sydenham to a less desireable suburb.
Where previously homes were well maintained, many recently sold homes now have overgrown rubbish littered front yards. There is repeated household rubbish dumping in park areas and nature verges, smashed bottles on the roadside and piles of vape cannisters and discarded takeaway containers left in parks and near the playgrounds.
Despite this, Sydenham remains a great little suburb to live and raise a family in.

"Litter filled feral suburb"
From the outside, Sydenham looks nice. Look closer, and your eyes won’t be able to unsee the filfth. Litter everywhere, burn out marks all over roads, lack of police presence. This is just another glorified western suburb that could be nice if ferals learned how to live with some civic sense.
"Highly Recommended for a Family-Oriented Lifestyle!"
Sydenham is an excellent suburb, especially for families. It offers everything you could need, from the Watergardens Shopping Centre with supermarkets, cinemas, and dining options, to a great selection of schools like Catholic Regional College Sydenham and Emmaus Catholic Primary School. The suburb also boasts easy access to public transport, with a train station and buses, making commuting to the CBD hassle-free. The well-connected road network, including the Calder Fwy and Melton Hwy, ensures getting around is quick and simple.
What really stands out is the community and outdoor spaces. The suburb is filled with parks, sports grounds, and kindergartens, making it ideal for active families. The local community is friendly, and it's a safe, peaceful place to live. Overall, Sydenham strikes the perfect balance between convenience, green spaces, and a family-friendly atmosphere, and I couldn't recommend it more for anyone looking to settle down in a welcoming environment.

"Simply Sydenham."
Sydenham is a sweet family friendly neighbourhood. With plenty of schools nearby, and a variety of parks and walking tracks, this suburb provides a wonderful lifestyle to raise a family. Walking distance to Watergardens Shopping Centre, train station and 5 minutes drive from Caroline Springs lake.
A comfy little hood in Metro Melbourne.

"Great Suburb!"
Read a few reviews from some nutbags who think this area is overrun by crime when really that is the biggest lie i have ever heard. Coming from a bloke who lived in Footscray back in the 2009 days, i must say this is heaven. Do you know where i have been mugged, and under threat? Footscray! St Albans, but i won't sit here and listen to the dribble that Sydenham is dangerous. I live not far from the station and i must say the essence of nature and the quietness is so absolutely beautiful, nothing better than the sunsets you see at sydenham around the melton hwy shops. Just beautiful. Life here can be pretty boring however, for someone who is 21, it can feel very lonely, this is why i think it is better to move here with a partner instead of alone or with your kid. As every suburb goes, exercise caution at night near the station especially when it is late, some of the areas especially near CRC can be very poorly lit and as a result make you prone to things like mugging, but in my experience this has never happened. I always walk home after footy or cricket games at 10:30 - 12:00 AM, while it is quiet, i never noticed anyone peculiar hanging by. My brothers live in St albans and it is the opposite
"Best in the North West"
Sydenham is close to everything.... schools, public transport, multi ways to get into the City by car. Train to city 30mins and car 20mins. Melton hwy new bridge over the train line will boost the price up, watergardens station right next to watergatdens shopping centre. Fitness clubs... list goes on and on.

"Great place to live"
One of the greatest suburbs in the north west corridor. Close to the cbd by train or car, great shopping, great sports facilities at the community hub, good childcare options, I have never experienced any of the crime people are talking of and I have been a resident for over 20 years. Watergardens shopping centre offers a great variety of stores, the train station is manned almost all the time, buses are frequent from both the shopping centre and the train station. The library offers wonderful programs for the young and elderly. Sydenham has some great fast food options too. It’s a great place to live at all life stages.

"Yeah Nah"
Sydenham is a place I would not recommend bringing kids to. Hanging out anywhere around sydenham after sunset is dangerous. Half of the houses in our area have been broken into, and emergency response time is non existent. It is quite a multicultural area, so you always see african, asian, white, and middle eastern people around, so that is a positive. Watergardens is not a good place unless you are in a group, people regularly get robbed. Honestly, unless you have to live here, do, you may be lucky, but be careful. Finally, with the increase of meth, methheads are common and scary to run into
