Thomastown, VIC 3074

Thomastown is a hidden gem. This is city is definitely improving with an influx of young families. It is in close proximity to the CBD. Easy access to ring road. It has its own train station and isn't far from tram stops either. It has a great YMCA. Close to the shopping centers, Northern hospital. Great schools around (St John XXIII Primary School Thomastown East). The neighbourhood used to be a bit rough but is definitely clearing up as real-estate gets more expensive. Has great dining option and cafe around.

I noticed recently that there was a lot of family friendly hooning. It’s all good now because they got arrested and thomastown is back to being the best suburb in the country

A nice suburb to renovate an older style home. Good access to freeways. Pacific Epping and Northern Hospital just up the road. Was traditionally home to many Macedonian and Italian families.

I moved from cranbourne. Initially didnt like much but after being here for a while I started liking it.

Still missing Kmart but epping mall is a of a great convenience.

I've lived here 5 years now. It's pretty nice. It has that worn in look of a well used place. Most people are friendly enough, get a nod or a wave on a walk. There was one creepy white guy who would tailgate and threaten you but he has moved away. Everyone else is pretty friendly or at least neutral and keeps to themselves.

There's lots of conveniences within a few km and the public transport network is relatively decent. Although the loop buses never run on time and will randomly not show up. The other buses are okay and the train station is also okay. it has lots of car park and bike stands.

I wouldn't go walking around at 2am but it feels pretty safe. my neighbours check on me sometimes which is nice since i live alone.

Cons: Sometimes people hoon about but since they added more speedbumps that's slowed down a bit. Hooning isn't really a big deal anyway - better than stabbings and murders. I haven't seen any cars crash since the new traffic lights so that's a relief. Before I had seen a lot, including a kid getting hit.
Sometimes there's a bit of rubbish on the roads, but the street sweeper comes twice a week.

The growling grass frog parkland gets lots of rubbish but as long as you tell the council they get rid of it in a week or so.

People let their dogs harass you. I like dogs, but it's pretty annoying having dogs harass you.

Those are the biggest cons, so all up it is one of the better places i've lived.

I grew up in Thomastown and it's a great place to live and enjoy. It used to be filled with and many respects still is with European migrants from Greece, Italy and Macedonia. And thus had a community feel and very safe. The residents were family orientated and maintained their house holds and gardens beautifully. It was back in the day considered the outer north just like Mernda and Doreen are today. Although many people of my generation remained in Thomastown many moved on to Mill Park or South Morang to build more grand homes. It's still a great place and definitely deserves more recognition in being a suburb where you can live in happily. Close to the freeways, a variety of shops like Pacific Epping, Lalor shops, Thomastown shops, fairly close to the city, Northern Hospital, places of worship and the train station.
I would not pay attention to the overly negative comments on here. They give me troll vibes as many people who want to do well for themselves are targeting places like Thomastown, Lalor and Epping to buy heaps of investment properties for rent or to build townhouses knowing that they will be worth a mint in the near future. A lot of people come on here to attack the suburb to deter good people from buying here so they can mop up at auctions and sales. Honestly if you're looking for a family centered, down to earth community then definitely choose Thomastown to buy and live in.

Thomastown is a great area, theres really good city access via Western ring rd, Dalton Rd, High St. Plenty of cafes and resturants and Pacific epping and Costco 7 minutes away.
The area is pumping with developments as it is a growth area within the middle city ring. It is a property hotspot with the most desired pocket for families being East Thomastown side just off Dalton Rd (due to all the schools, transport, freeway access, childcares etc.
