Port Lincoln

"Stinkin Linkn!"

Lincolners are typically close minded with no friends outside the people they went to school with. That way you know everyone, and you are one of them. So eveyrone knows everyone thats anyone worth knowinjg...or you're just not from around here and what do you think youre doing here. I have lived here for ten years. It does my head in , so I am leaving for civilization.

Great for

  • Staring into space

Not great for

  • Local only mentality

Who lives here?

  • Retirees
  • LGBT+
  • Country Lovers

Sad you have not enjoyed Lincoln…….I know there are some narrow minded fools around, there are in any town……..I've travelled too and I still ended up back here…….yep, the front beach is nothing spec really but u need to explore a little cos the whole west coast has amazing beaches if u are willing to look……what facilities do you expect at a beach anyway? If you are going to any of the local spots u know what is there and plan accordingly…………I wouldn't roll up to an isolated, pristine spot and expect a dunny cos that is the whole point! I'd rather go to any of the surf spots locally than some crowded, mangy city beach with disgusting toilets and syringes god knows where. But it is all about where your values lie I guess and it is true that Lincoln can be a tad self satisfied and insular. However, I've known plenty of people who settle here and never feel like they are excluded - it's about having a half full glass instead of half empty………..

As for the shop local thing one of the biggest problems for retailers in Lincoln is not just the love affair with city shopping that some of the more affluent have, it is also the prices offered via internet sales nowadays - the reason many retailers items are priced higher than internet prices is that often we cannot buy the item for the same price being offered by big internet sales companies - they buy massive amounts of each item and get a different deal than a little retailer can possibly get from their supplier - plus the retailer bears the cost of freight and keeping their doors open with electricity, rent, staff etc, etc. Big internet retailers are often just a shed with much lower overheads. The bonus to buying local, apart from helping local economies stay functional, is that you get the follow up service if things go wrong as well as the experience of being able to physically inspect the goods and make sure they are fit for the purpose you require them for - no matter how good a website is, it cannot replace this. The cost of not buying locally is a long term cost of not having friends and family employed, not having places to go and physically inspect items, and can led to a "ghost town" effect where there is no cultural activity taking place in your community…..not nice!

I don't agree there is a lack of options for schools either…..i have three kids and they have had some awesome teachers here!

I HAVE SURFED, WORKED AND LIVED ALONG THE ENTIRE WEST COASTLINE FORTHE LAST 20 YEARS AND ITS THE ONLY PLACE TO BE FOR ADVENTURING,EXPLORING AND SIGHTSEEING. BUT THIS IS A REVIEW FOR PEOPLE SEEKING TO TAKE RESIDENCE IN PORT LINCOLN.
LET IT BE SAID THERE JUST ISNT A DECENT BEACH WITHIN 20KM OF PORT LINCOLN.
AS FOR THE RUBBISH THAT IS WASHED UP NEARBY FROM THE FISHING FLEET, THAT MAKES IT MORE MANGY THAN ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO COMPARE WITH.
SO SEEING AS LINCOLN PEOPLE OBSESS OVER DRAWING COMPARISONS WITH ITS MOTHER CITY ADELAIDE, LETS DO IT.
TAKE A STROLL IN SUMMER ALONG THE SOUTHERN METROPOLITAN BEACHES SUCH AS SEACLIFF BRIGHTON AND SOMERTON AND YOU WILL REALISE ITS SPECTACULAR AND CLEAN. WITH GREAT PLACES NEARBY TO SHOP AND DINE.

IF YOU ARE BORN AND BRED LOCAL ITS FAIR TO SAY YOU WILL NEVER LEAVE. YOU JUST CANT IMAGINE LIFE OUT OF THE LINCOLNSPHERE.

THERE IS TWO SCHOOLS- THIS IS NOT A GOOD SELECTION FOR THE PUPOSE OF A REVIEW.
TOTALLY LIMITED UNLESS YOU WANT TO SEND THEM INTO A GHETTO PUBLIC SCHOOL FULL OF RUFF RAF OR OTHERWISE GET BAPTISED AND PAY BIG BUCKS FOR YOUR FAMILY TO BE INDOCTRINATED INTO CATHOLISICSM AT ST JOSEPHS.
THIS IS OUR MAIN REASON FOR INSTIGATING OUR RELOCATION ACTUALLY.

Yep, agree with the fishing fleet rubbish comment totally - we often come home with bags of rubbish from the beaches we go to - agree you have to drive for the best beach but there are still little spots like Shelly Beach around, but we adore Louth and you do have to drive to get there……there are more school choices than two - Lincoln Gardens is kicking all sorts of goals with a new batch of keen teachers and an unreal principal, there is also Kirton Point and the PL Junior Primary plus Primary School, plus I've known crew to send their kids to Poonindee as well, it has a well deserved good reputation. For high school kids there is the town plus Saint Jo's plus there is now Navigator College……..I've heard parents rave about Navigator's so we are looking at that for a high school option, they are expanding their grades to matric in the next couple of years. Their fees are not that bad either!

I work in with schools as part of my agencies operational framework and spent six weeks visiting the local high school…….yes there are issues when you have any bunch of sixteen/seventeen year old kids………but these kids were totally switched on, very respectful and a joy to meet……..maybe the "naughty" kids weren't at school at all those days but the one's I talked with gave me a lot of hope for the future!

Hey bonesbrice, you either hate it or love it! Hope you found a great spot in Adelaide to live that has everything you desire. I found that spot here in the good old Lincoln town ;-) Enjoy live!

We thoroughly enjoy Lincoln every time we visit. Maybe it is because we have family there to see.
