"Dull wasteland of a town"

I had low expectations of this place and I was still disappointed. You can tell a lot about a town by its locals, and every person I encountered was either rude, grumpy or plain devoid of life. It’s high time capital city taxpayer dollars stop propping up useless old liability towns like this. Will never be back!

One of the greatest things has been the schools in Wangaratta - our children have thrived here. Perfect place for families with every convenience.

"A small town with some great memories"

Wangaratta is a great town to grow up in. Its pretty safe being a small town. As a kid we could play outside, out the front without having to worry about being abducted or ran over. The town got better once the local cinema was put in. The more shops that opened the better it was. It's a great place to raise a family with really good schools. A lot of 19+ yr olds move to Melbourne or even Albury after schools out as there isn't as many job prospects there as in the city. They move for uni then usually work for a few years in the city. A lot move back to Wangaratta to have their own kids. It's a peaceful place with nice parks and walk tracks. The traffic is very mild, it took me less than 5 mins to get to work compared to 1/2 an hour to an hour and a half in Brisbane!

Great for

  • Peace and Quiet
  • Nice locals
  • Less traffic

Not great for

  • Less jobs than the city, less opportunity
  • Not as much things to do as in the city
  • Less shops, higher prices due to less competition
