I've lived in Wangaratta for 21 and a half years and since the period of 2015 onwards have found the town to become more and more unsafe with each passing year, which seemed to accelerate post 2019. West End used to be the place to live, but now it's riddled with hoons. Altercations are now on the rise. It's nothing like it was in my childhood. Lots of scary and aggressive people around now. Watch out for leering, catcalling, drivers that don't give way at roundabouts. The population has increased to the point it feels claustrophobic. Nephew just started Prep and he was bullied on his first day in a private school so watch out. Sorry there are good parts but if you're looking for somewhere peaceful, check out the Indigo Shire.
Wangaratta is peaceful escape from the capital city with lovely scenery and strong growth. Plenty of families call Wangaratta home with popular schools.
Moved from Melbourne to Wangaratta in 2020 and have been coming up this way for 30years, Wangaratta is a wonderful place to live. Hospital, decent shops, good schools and nice drives to historic towns and wineries.
High country on the doorstep.
