Yungaburra is a small, picturesque town located on the Atherton Tablelands. Known for its hanging baskets of flowers, character architecture and cool climate, Yungaburra is a quaint town of a bygone era.

Close to the significant Tinaroo Dam and a variety of natural attractions (including volcanic lakes), Yungaburra is popular with families and visitors. The Yungaburra Markets are renowned for local produce and entertainment. The local primary school is excellent. Property prices are strong in the area; with Yungaburra properties often in demand.

Yungaburra is a small town, of historic interest, situated on the Atherton Tableland, just south of Cairns. It has a brilliant climate - much cooler than Cairns in summer and just cold enough to nestle up to a cosy fire in winter. Summer nights rarely go above 16 degrees Celsius and the days rarely above 25 degrees. Take 10 degrees off these figures for winter. Views of Lake Tinaroo are to be found from many properties, especially on the Lakeside Estate

Population is around 1,000, with a good mix of families, and retired and working couples. There is a primary school, a supermarket, a Post Office, chemist and medical practice, butcher, restaurants and an historic hotel, the Yungaburra Pub - well worth a visit for its North Queensland timber panelling. Each October, the town is the venue for the famous Yungaburra Folk Festival.

It's a great place to live - and to fish on Lake Tinaroo, swim in or walk around the nearby crater lakes, Eacham and Barrine, and to have a relaxed weekend if not a permanent resident. I made the choice to live here 16 years ago and have not regretted it for one minute. Parking is never difficult on the Tableland, and there is nary a traffic light to be seen. Within 75 km commuting distance of Cairns and the Barrier Reef, Yungaburra is close to all the big city amenities,but just far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be a real gem of a place to live.

Yungaburra is a village in the Atherton tablelands about a one hour drive north of Cairns in tropical north Queensland. Many of the buildings in this town have remained unchanged since 1910 and with 18 heritage listed building it is the record for Queensland. Although building wise as well as old fashion courtesy and politeness it is like stepping back in time, Yungaburra offers some great restaurants and cafes as well as art and crafts shops and galleries. There is good accommodation in town with motels, B&B’s and guesthouses. There are walking and bike riding trails as well as picnic areas for the whole family.
