Reviews of Barkly St, Footscray
"Footscray: A Cultural and Culinary Crossroads"
Barkly Street in Footscray is a vibrant thoroughfare that embodies the suburb's rich multicultural heritage. It's renowned for its diverse culinary scene, featuring establishments like Roti Road, offering Malaysian-Chinese cuisine , and Jaathara at Barkly, known for its Indian dishes . The street also hosts various development projects, such as the proposed mixed-use development at 495–507 Barkly Street, which includes a Woolworths supermarket, childcare facility, and medical centre . Additionally, Barkly Street has a rich history, with landmarks like the Barkly Hotel dating back to circa 1900 .
"A rich culture and exciting place to live!"
Footscray is an up and coming area west of the city. It has amazing cuisine, excellent transport, parks/gardens, bike tracks and best of all it is only 6km from Melbourne CBD. As someone who grew up in the Eastern suburbs it's refreshing to experience the rich culture and community spirit that Footscray has to offer.
The Vic Government has identified Footscray as a key transport hub in it's 2030 plan and is injecting large amounts of funding to improve infrastructure in the area. FOOTSCRAY in 2030 will be safe, artsy, edgy and affordable, according to the latest State Government guidelines.
The suburb is set to become the centre of employment, services, public facilities, shopping and dining in the West.
I would highly recommend the area to anyone looking for an affordable and culturally diverse area with fantastic growth prospects.

"Barkly Street Walking distance to any facilities and friendly characters"
It's so friendly, if you catch a bus or walking to station, you can make friends on the way. People are so friendly and like to make friends and helping each other. We have lived in Barkly street for more than 10 years and love it love it and love it. It is so convenient walking to shops, station, buses and close to High point (10minutes driving), 7 km from CBD.

Very OTT, even to the point of ridiculous. Sure there is still an element of crime which exists in most suburbs, but for the most part that is all gone. Footscray is filled with beautiful old homes and a wonderful mix of people from all walks of life. I moved from the inner east to Footscray 4 years ago and it is the best thing I ever did. I’m 10 minutes from the city and have all the amenities I need.
Very much over the top. Have not experienced anything close to what you described and I am seeing fantastic changes in the area.
Are you serious Ive lived here 5 years and had so problem in fact I blown away by how safe it is compared to other parts of Melbourne, people with higher incomes are moving into Footscray while slowly pushing pushing out the riff raff
A little OTT (over the top) I would say. Gangs of criminals? In your imagination.
