I've lived in Canterbury all my life, and absolutely love it here. The neighbours are amazingly friendly, and many great schools for the kids within a short driving distance. Close enough to the CBD without being too close, and most areas of canterbury have an abundance of trees lining the streets, making it a visually pleasing place to live.

You couldn't ask for a safer suburb either, with no crime that I know of. Burke Road shopping is only a short stroll away, and with the new Well shopping complex there, it's got everything you would need. Rivoli Cinemas are close, as are some great restaurants.

The only downside I would say is the expense. It is one of the most expensive suburbs in Melbourne, but if you can afford it, then by all means, you really can't go wrong in Canterbury.

With easily accessible transport and some of Australia's leading leading schools Canterbury is an area great for growing families, retirees and aspirational professionals. Named after 'Viscount Canterbury' the aristocratic feel continues with large land holdings including a number of ornate Victorian and Edwardian homes giving the suburb an enchanting ambiance. Established in 1882 the suburb now has a high social status which is partly reflected in high real estate prices and the heritage protected areas. A jewel in crown of the suburb is Canterbury Gardens which is perfect for a Sunday stroll.

I think that Canterbury is one of the Best Suburbs in Melbourne! It has all the Great Shopping & Schooling Options plus some great Accommodation!

This Suburb is another great Choice for me to live in Melbourne!

Located just 10km from the Melbourne CBD is an exclusive yet tranquil suburb in the name of Canterbury.

Canterbury is considered one of Melbourne's most expensive residential suburbs and rounds out the top three suburbs for median house prices, (approximately $1.8 million), after traditional power suburbs in both Toorak & Brighton. Suffice to say, residents of East Melbourne might beg to differ in the ranking sweepstakes.

In stark contrast to both Brighton & Toorak, there exists a subtle charm and grace in Canterbury; that is, wealthy individuals who are comfortable within their own shoes and more discreet about their daily lives.

The most exclusive section of real estate is concentrated between Balwyn Road & Burke Road at the west end of Mont Albert Road. This segment is referred to as the "Golden MIle" and is home to a number of successful wealthy individuals alike. Of the avenues that connect to Canterbury Road, the gold medal goes to Monomeath Avenue. Properties, within what unarguably has to be Melbourne's finest residential tree-lined address, are both the most expensive and prestigious. Victoria Avenue is not too far behind in second place. Mont Albert Road rounds out the top three residential streets for anyone aspiring to live within this suburb.

A typical starting price range would be $2.5 million for a good house on both Mont Albert Road & Victoria Avenue with Monomeath commanding a slightly higher price range at $4.5 million. Top of the range properties cost from $5 million on Victoria Avenue, $7.5 million on Mont Albert Road & $9 million on Monomeath Avenue. The Frognall estate could be as much as $20 million!

The suburb is becoming increasingly popular with wealthy local & offshore Chinese buyers. Some big sales have occurred along Monomeath Avenue, (in 2008 a Chinese property developer paid $9 million for a mansion on the street; another sold late October 2013 for $4.8 million) and Mont Albert Road, (a few mansions have sold for between $5-7.5 million early 2013).

Overall, Canterbury is accessible with a short walk to the train station taking 15-20 mins. Don't forget Maling Road!

To sum up, Canterbury is stunning during spring and summer-time; however I have yet to walk during autumn which most have stated is incrediably stunning- particulary along the "Golden MIle"!

Canterbury has become Melbourne's second most prestigious suburb behind Toorak and with house prices more than doubling in recent times if you can afford to get into the market you will not lose.

In a nutshell Canterbury is a very leafy suburb, small (which enhances it's exclusivity) and surrounded by some of Melbourne's very best schools. Names like Carey, Xavier, Camberwell Grammer, MLC and Genezzano are all around the corner or just off nearby Barkers Road.

Burke Road and Maling Road provide great spots to dine, shop and just generally walk around on a weekend.

You will also find many parks to take the kids. I've also found that because the suburb is so small neighbours look out for one another more than most places.

I would definitely recommend Canterbury to anybody.

Canterbury is considered to be one of the best suburbs in all of Victoria. Home to some very expensive homes, Canterbury holds some of the most beautiful homes in Melbourne, mostly situated in Alexandra Avenue, Monomeath Avenue and Victoria Avenue...The golden mile of Canterbury.

Most of the people living in Canterbury are large families, or elderly retired folk as it is such an expensive suburb. The reason for it's pricey nature is quite simply location. It's very close to Melbourne CBD, close to schools in Kew (Xavier College and Trinity College) and Burke Road is just around the corner which has some fantastic shopping, restaurants and cafe's. Safeway is on Burke Road and is quite handy...in fact I think it is the most lucrative Safeway in all of Victoria.

The only problem with Canterbury that I can think or are the nosy neighbors. As a lot of the people in the area are elderly, so expect to get a lot letters complaining about noise, car parks on the nature strips etc.

Apart from that however, it's a great family friendly suburb, and with house prices increasing every year and not looking to go down, it's one of the best suburbs in all of Victoria.
