"Love it"

We moved a year ago in Killarney Heights. It is a very convenient suburb as it is close to everything (city, beach, forest,...). our daughters feel very safe here as it is a little pocket without traffic. The schools are great with a good sense of community. People who live here, stay here for a long time.

"Best kept secret in Sydney"

We live on a peninsula on Sydney's Middle Harbour, across from Seaforth and CastleCove, but most Sydneysiders have never heard of this place, and have never visited. It's a short commute (25 minutes by private bus in peak hour) to the CBD and you can drive to Chatswood or the Northern Beaches (Dee Why, Manly) in about 15 - 20 minutes. The schools are top-rated, with a French/English curriculum and a very diverse group including lots of Australian, European and Asian families. The whole suburb is surrounded by Garigal National Park and is very green and leafy. Many of the people who built the houses here in the 1960's still live here, but are just starting to move on, so there are lots of opportunities to grab "entry level" houses for under $1,000,000.

"The Best Place I Had Never Heard Of..."

I wrote below under venturecreek about how we came to live here - now, my family has been in Killarney Heights for almost ten years, and I can't believe that it is still one of those "best kept secret" suburbs... In terms of the schools, safety and tranquility it is absolutely tops, and while there is not huge nightlife or an endless variety of restaurants, we are so close to lots of other places (Chatswood, Manly) that there are always easy options. The local shops have grown a lot over the past few years, and the French culture abounds due to the highly-rated programme in the local primary school - the high school is also one of the highest rated public schools in the state. We have a proper French patisserie, a Japanese bakery, homemade pizza shop, the Talking Heads Cafe, a fresh fruit and veggie shop and soon will have an organic butcher... Pretty good for a quiet suburb with almost no crime and tucked away between National Park and Sydney Harbour! I can be in the CBD on public transport in 23 minutes and drive to the airport in about 30 even with some traffic - beaches are a 15 minute drive and you can get up to Newport and the Pittwater in just over 20 minutes. I know almost everyone in my street and find that everyone takes a lot of pride in our local community, which is great... My kids take music lessons and swim lessons locally, and there are art classes, dance classes, pilates for mum and plenty of other services available without ever leaving the neighbourhood. So pleased that I fell into the place so long ago!

"Great place to live, shop, and for activities for the kids"

Killarney heights is such a nice place to live and shop . There is a convenient shopping center with a french cafe bakery patisserie, cafe, jananese bakery, fruit and veges, convenience store, pizza shop, a chinese restaurant..... But also a hairdresser, a maternity shop, a butcher, a poolshop, a shoe shop, a realestate agent, chartered accountant....
Also, plenty of activities for our kids, such as : school of music, 2 dance studios, art studio, fashion studio, and a well known litteracy circle.
Also a swimming pool, tennis courts, an oval ....
A bilingual public primary school (french-english) and a high school
So much to do in a safe and nice place.

"Loving Killarney!!"

We have just moved to KH and are absolutely loving it. It feels like you’re living in a small town, but with the benefits of being close to the city. I work in Rosebery and my commute is 30 to 40 mins each way. Chatswood is just down the road, as well as some of the city's finest beaches like Freshwater, Dee Why etc. KH is on a peninsula so you don’t have any through-traffic. It’s quiet, peaceful, safe and very family oriented. People seem to behave differently in this suburb, for example they stop to let you cross the road. There is no road rage, and good old fashion values like courtesy, community spirit and friendliness prevail. Kids can still run around, and ride their bikes. Killarney Heights shops are good with a bakery, cafe, fruit shop and hairdressers. One of our favourite things is to meet friends at Killarney Heights Pizza every Friday night. It’s a social hub where you get to catch up with everyone, almost like the village square. Schools are excellent too. Wish we’d moved here earlier but glad we have done it now as we’re here for life!

"Family Living At Its Finest"

20 minutes away from the city, yet it feels you could be nestled somwhere in the Hawkesbury. Ticks every box, just can't believe we did not move here sooner. Get in quick as the house prices should be the same as Castle Cove just the other side of the water, and it won't take too long to correct.

"A hidden gem, flanked by National Park and Middle Harbour"

Lush, green, tranquil. Living in KH is like having a holiday home, yet in the city. You can indulge in your favourite holiday activities by just walking out of your front door at the weekend - bush walking, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking. Getting to work in the city is easy via a direct bus in the morning and simply changing at Chatswood in the evening. Killarney Heights shops could do with a bit more variety - a convenience store or deli would be a great. Also the cafe is not open on Sundays. But all with time! I am sure it will become a cosmopolitan hub and a great place to meet and chat over the papers and coffee. Forestville shops are a matter of minutes drive away where you can pick up all the groceries you need. 15 minutes drive to the city and 10 minutes to the Northern beaches make KH very convenient (and you don't have to fight with Military Rd or Spit bridge). House prices seem very competitive for the moment - but it won't last as the area is being flooded by young families/professional couples who want a fantastic lifestyle without sacrifice.

"Suburbia at its best but devoid of character"

Great for families, safe, friendly, very social. with a wonderful community spirit. Homes are a mix of the unrenovated, the newly renovated, bog standard project homes and upmarket, no expense spared homes. Generally the architecture is uninspiring and passe. Surrounded by Middle Harbour and Garigal National Park makes for plenty of opportunities to commune with nature, indeed there are many possums, parrots and escaped pet rabbits to enjoy.
The two public schools are very good with the primary school enjoying the status of a long waiting list and a French/English curriculum. All the after school activities are within walking distance, Carlile swimming school, a tennis centre, both soccer and rugby clubs, Vibe dance studio, netball courts and Mosman rowing club. Public transport is pretty good though the train station is a 10 minute bus ride away. Beaches and the city are both close.

"A quiet oasis in Sydney -great schools and parks, only 25 mins to the city."

Very quiet, with a great run into the sydney - avoiding the major traffic congestion. Friendly neighbourhoods. 2 of the best public schools in the state - french teachers in all the primary school classes, and a high school ranking at the top of the list. Beautiful open space - both council parks and national parks. Only areas of opportunity are eating out and transport.

"Quiet and Peaceful, but is it?"

Killarney Heights is a suburb of Sydney 15 kilometres north-east of the CBD in the local government area of the Warringah Council but still considered to be in the Northern Beaches district of Sydney.

Founded in the 1960s it is bounded on the north by Forestville, the east by Allambie Heights, the south and west by Middle harbour. The population in 2006 was 4,069 with 27% under 18 and 22% over 60.

90% of all dwellings are separate houses with a median price of $895,000. Only 12% of dwellings are rented.

Killarney Heights is a very pleasant suburb with lots of trees sitting on a hard stony ridge above Middle Harbour. Transport to and from the suburb is by road via Warringah Road and Wakehurst Parkway from Forestville.

If you want to do any shopping I am afraid you must travel. Schools are a different story though. The Primary and High Schools are close to the oval.

It is interesting that people living close to natural bushland and parks rarely use them. They are more visited by people who live elsewhere and flock in on weekends. Killarney Heights is no exception to this rule. By day it is a sleepy little appendage off Forestville but over the weekends … Well…
