Reviews of Lord Street, Newtown
"Cheapest area of Newtown"
It’s backed right onto the train line , which makes it dirty and noisy. It’s the cheapest area of Newtown for this reason. It’s not particularly safe, and streets need a thorough clean an upgrade. The roads, pavements and powerlines are a mess. Looks like a third world country. Not safe at night.

"A great place to live for couples or singles, be they gay or straight."
Lord St is one of the cheapest streets that you can buy in, yet still get the Newtown 2042 postcode because it gets a good dose of plane, train and automobile noise (in the afternoon peak). Being at the bottom end of Newtown means that it also gets quite dusty and grimey too. However, on the upside, there is less people noise late at night compared to streets further up in Newtown central. It's a actually a great place to live as St Peters station and Marrickville Metro are both within 5 minutes walk. Plus there are buses at the top of King St that will take you into town or across to Leichhardt or Coogee. What's more, it has excellent access to Sydney Park. There is a nice mix of owner occupied and rented houses available - Federation or Victorian in style, plus two blocks of cheap sixties style red brick walk-up apartments. There is also a newer development opposite the station, plus a complex that is opening beside the Sydney Park Hotel later in 2009. It is a street of youngish singles, straight and gay couples and a few families.
