Should the MCG's Great Southern Stand get upgraded?
I love going to the MCG. I love it.
I just heard today that the Great Southern Stand is getting upgraded. i think the state govt is putting in 30 mil and mcc members 21 mill or something.
Nice .. but .. is it worth it? --Especially- from the state govt ... when that 30MG's could be spent on other tree huggin hippie stuff like Public Transport or Homeless or Hospitals?

I just dont get why the government should be footing a big part of the bill? The MCG is a for profit organisation, it should pay for it.

I guess, from the governments perspective, that they see that as a source of tourism (both local and interstate) which fuels spending ... which means growth, etc.

Yes, it's pretty obvious that the government has some responsibility to pay for this stuff, considering it is a large part of tourism. Although aren't we paying for Oprah to come out? Not sure about that one...then again, her show will give Australia massive exposure.
