Best places for a 17 yo to move alone in Melbourne?

Hello! Next year I will be moving to Melbourne to study and as my campus does not have res, I will be looking for a home to live in. Obviously it will be a bit harder to find a place to live although I will be only 2 months off being 18! I was wondering where a nice affordable suburb would be. I don't mind being close or far from the city, but would prefer the Frankston/Langwarrin area because I do in fact have a few friends there. I have heard Langwarrin is a beautiful place to live, just so nervous with it being so close to Frankston! Also, I am a huge beach person! Thank you! :)

Hi Ashley :)
A couple or areas that i think might work for you are Chelsea and Mornington.
Chelsea is about 20 minutes away from Langwarrin and you have the beach at your doorstep. It's not right next to Frankston and it has a train station. The rentals prices aren't over the top but i'll give you the link to the chelsea rentals page and you can have a look if you like http://www.homely.com.au/rent/chelsea-kingston-melbourne-greater-victoria?bedrooms=2. Also, Chelsea isnt the place to be if you want night life and lots of restaurants but it has everything you need.
Mornington is about 25-30 minutes away from Langwarrin but the public transport isnt great. It's a nice seaside suburb and i think the rentals prices are similar to the prices in Chelsea: http://www.homely.com.au/rent/mornington-mornington-peninsula-melbourne-greater-victoria?bedrooms=1-2 It's also not right next to Frankston.

Langwarrin is a very nice area, better if you drive and don't rely on the buses.
Chelsea or Mordialloc are also good safe areas.
Good luck.
