First Home Buyer - Looking to move closer to the city. Suburb suggestions

I'm currently saving up for a home deposit and am starting to look into where I want to buy. I've previously lived in country towns, Ballarat, and Geelong.

I am wanting a 2-3 bedroom place, with access to a Metro train line. Other requirements would be...
* Good access to daily essentials (supermarket, chemist, doctor etc)
* Nearby parks

I would love a suburb with some culture and/or history/heritage, but this is not necessary.

I would like to keep to a budget of no more than $600k.

I look forward to your suggestions, thank you.

Lalor is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 18 kilometres north of CBD. It has a train station and the average asking price is below you budget which means you'd most likely be able to get 50% off stamp duty (FHB)

Hi Ebony,
I recommend you have a look at Mentone! There's lots of parks and all the shops you would need as well as cafes, train station, pub and the beach! Mentone also has a great community feel :)
Heres a link to the current available properties if you'd like to have a look: https://www.homely.com.au/buy/mentone-kingston-melbourne-greater-victoria?pricemaximum=750000
