Have you moved to Melbourne with a young family?

I'm looking for advice from people who have moved interstate to Melbourne WITH a family. My husband is being transferred to Melbourne and we have three children, 7, 5 and 3. We'll initially be renting (up to $1100/wk) with the possibility of buying (up to $1.2M) should we choose to stay long term. We currently live in a coastal suburb about 1.5hrs from Sydney. We can live anywhere in Melbourne as my husband is home office based. What's really important is a high socio economic area with reputable schools (public or private) that offers homes WITH backyards. I'm struggling to find suburbs where most houses offer decent sized backyards. Any recommendations?
