How to use home goods to save space?

What home goods do you suggest to save space and save money on storage? I've heard spice containers are good to save home goods such as paper clips etc.
What other things can you suggest?

Use odd socks as a room refresher. You can clean the sock and fill it with fresh lavender to leave around the house. This saves time from shopping and means you don't need large diffusers in rooms.

Using old cordial bottles to save cold water. Instead of putting an expensive water filtering system, just use fresh tap water and put it in a fridge at around 2 degrees.
