Moving to Melbourne - Surrey Hills vs Doncaster

Hello everyone

I ask a similar question previously, but in a nutshell, we're a one child family thinking of moving to Melbourne. We've done a small scoping trip and really liked Surrey Hills as a suburb since it had leafy tree cover and was quite a beautiful area.

A colleague of mine from Melbourne has tried to convince me of the virtues of Doncaster. Looking online, Doncaster seems to be a lot cheaper for property than Surrey Hills and I'm trying to understand what aspects of Surrey Hills make it command a lot more money - and more importantly if its worth it?

From the map I can tell that Surrey Hills has (or will have ) a train station and is closer to the city than Doncaster. Also seems Surrey Hills adjoins some very rich suburbs, but can you guys help me understand whether the higher price tag for Surrey Hills would be worth it and what makes it much more expensive? Would love to hear your opinions between the two.

Hi Yeti, you are spot on with everything you have said. Surrey Hills is more expensive, mainly because of its proximity to the city AND good schools. That being said Doncaster is not that much further out and you will get better bang for your buck there. Both fantastic suburbs, but great choices.
