Relocation Sydney Melbourne best family friendly suburbs 25km max from Port Melbourne

We are looking at relocating from Sydney to Melbourne due to my husbands work. We know nothing about Melbourne. I would like some suggestions on family friendly suburbs and we have two small children one who will need to go to preschool/kindy next year. What suburbs would you suggest have secure, gardens with big backyards. We have looked at Beaumaris so far and it seems beautiful. Any suggestions would be great.
