Safe and affordable suburbs within an hour of the CBD

Hi, I am a student who will be moving to Melbourne next year to continue my studies. I am looking for a 1 bed apartment within an hour commute to the cbd. Can anyone recommend some safe suburbs in the $250-$280 a week price range. For reference I am a 5ft female in my early 20s who will probably end up working hospitality so will be commuting late at night and I am ver conscious about my safety due to past issues. I will not be bringing my car with me so public transport is also important. Thanks :)
