"Tree lined streets, character houses, blue chip suburb with new infrastructure on the way"

I love the community feel and events like 'Tourrific Prospect' street party, dancing in the park, tapas and drinks in 'Seven Nights of Summer' etc. Mostly I love that I can walk down the street to a cafe or restaurant (Sunny's is awesome for street Thai Food) and that it is so close to North Adelaide and the CBD. With the new boutique cinema and restaurants soon to be complete on Prospect Road, character houses and tree lined streets, it is a great place to live. The parts of prospect that are closest to the city, near the cafe strip on Prospect Road and between Main North Road and Prospect Road are in my opinion the nicest. There is development happening in the less affluent/not as nice end of Prospect beyond Regency Road and it is significantly improving. Close to excellent schools, both public and private (Wilderness School, St Dominic's, Blackfriars, North Adelaide Primary, Adelaide High School and the to be built specialist public school on Frome Road Adelaide) there is plenty of choice. It is still in the (just) affordable range for professionals (currently just under 600k median house price) but offers much better value than other blue chip suburbs.

  • Great neighbours!
  • Amazing cafe culture
  • Walking distance to North Adelaide

"I know how to sniff out a good suburb .. Literally!!"

I love the city of Prospect! Lets start with the amayzing line up of cafe's and restaurants on the main strip of Prospect road! YUM! I cant count how many times i've just wondered into a random cafe and fell in love with it.

A bit on the pricy side is prospect but you get what you pay for. Amazing, vintage stunning homes with excellent refurbishment/renovation potential on their decent sized blocks!

A bit of traffic at times especially when the tour down under is under way but overall if you love being local to the city or north adelaide and only 20 away from the beach then their should be nothing stoping you from moving into the lovely neighborhood!

"Ugh the ants"

It’s a mixed bag. Prospect road is great and we have enjoyed living near there. Some lovely parks and playgrounds. But once you have been to Prospect road a few times there really isn’t much else in the area. And the ants, they are relentless. Some beautiful houses and some dumpy houses which have just been left to go dilapidated. If you buy here, most houses can only be renovated, not knocked down so a lot have just been left to crumble. And while I do feel relatively safe here, I walk with my family a lot and see quite a lot of drug paraphernalia around. I’m not sure I see the full appeal and I don’t think I would ever put myself in mountains of debt to buy there. Not the friendliest of places either, I suppose a lot of old money lives there.

"Needs love"

Prospect is a really mixed bag. It should be super convenient and beautiful but has suffered great neglect over the years. Road maintenance is poor, parking lacks simple controls and streets are frequently blocked. Several major intersections remain blackspots for crashes. Close to both the city as well as the shops and great food options of Kilburn, it can be fun and convenient out of rush hours. Public transport access is reasonable. Although its previous association with high crime and treacherous main roads has improved, developers and authorities have been callous and a high proportion of character buildings have been replaced with low quality developments. A great place to live if you don't mind congestion and shedding a few tears.

Rentals in Prospect

"Definitely one of the best suburbs in Adelaide!"

I have been living in prospect for a couple of years now and the location is pretty much ideal for singles and families alike. Firstly, it is super convenient with prospect road "high street" shopping, dining, cinema etc. There's also coles, Woolworth, bunnings, Aldi, target, Kmart and much more at Sefton Park plaza and Churchill Centre. Secondly, the suburb is located a mere 10-15mins from the CBD which is also a plus point for anyone working in the city. Thirdly, the suburb is filled with beautiful character homes from the 1900s.
Downside is that prices have been going up heaps recently.

"Only a 5 minute drive into the CBD!"

Prospect, located in the inner northern suburbs of Adelaide, is most likely the "most lively" part of the northern suburbs. Prospect Road which runs through the area boasts with many eateries and restaurants to choose from and it is also known to hold the annual Tour Down Under, where the cyclists race, festival and most of the main road is closed off to hold the event in January. In terms of the personality of Prospect, it is a generally safe and quiet area, and the locals here tend to be friendly and don't mind having a conversation with each other. However the area for prolong times of the year, have a spate of minor to several criminal activity going on around the area. The news also seems to report frequent crime in Prospect as well, but overall, the area is very safe. Prospect is located very close to most of its amenities, such as Prospect Road which offer small shopping malls that are good for daily groceries but you are just 5 minutes from Rundle Mall! It could even take a 30 minute walk into the city so if a beautiful day comes around a stroll to the city is the way to go. The suburb is also located close to other shopping options such as Westfield Tea Tree Plaza at Modbury 30 minutes away, Northpark Shopping Centre 5 minutes away, Churchill Centre 5 minutes away, and much more. The NBN is also live in Prospect and has been since July 2015.

Overall, Prospect is one of the more better options to choose from in the northern suburbs. Although I wouldn't really want to live here, it is certainly a nice place to live, with it being located so close to all amenities such as shops, hospitals, schools and medical centres

"A beautiful suburb yet within 5 minutes from the city!"

Prospect is an very inner-northern suburb located in the city of Adelaide. The neighbourhood offers a lot of potential, and is the perfect place for anyone! Here is a few things about Prospect. Prospect, can you believe, is close to 5 minutes from the city! How good is that? So close, you can even take the excellent public transport into the city.
The neighbours are also very friendly, and will make you very welcome if you plan moving here. When you drive or stroll down Prospect Road you feel like you are in the city, but more like a town. It is known for it's great liveability in Prospect. Back to the topic, Prospect Road has a lot of things to do and enjoy. I won't spoil the suprises now! The area seems to be pretty clean and green most of the year, so I rated it great. Public transport is excellent.
The traffic in peak hours in the mornings and after-work hours in the afternoon along Prospect Road can get a little busy, so you might have to take the streets throughout Prospect. The streets throughout Prospect are beautiful. The tree-lined streets with a mixture of the old bungalows to the modern 2010s houses blend in very nicely. Footpaths are well-kept. The area is generally safe, and sometimes has a little to no crime. But don't worry, that doesn't stop it from being one of the best suburbs in Adelaide! Shopping options are great, with the options along Prospect Road, the city, Tea Tree Plaza, etc. The cost of houses in the area tend to be expensive, just pointing that out to you.

So, what are you waiting for? Start looking for a house in Prospect! This could make your life so much relaxing and easier. Lovely area to raise up kids in! Start thinking now!

I know Prospect is a price tag area and so with surrounding suburbs, so do your search.

Still great value in my opinion with the area continually developing the pride of home owners is high which makes it more attractive to families and professionals that want a character home on a big block.

I appreciate your view but disagree some of the Eastern Suburbs are alot more expensive to purchase in but arguably worse areas

OK, I also appreciate your answer as well. Your right. Actually, the suburbs in the East are much more expensive than Prospect. That's very true. I am sorry for not thinking that before I answered. Sorry.

"So close to the city and yet still affordable with an abundance of Character."

Prospect is full of Character homes that have been extended and refurbished, there is the occasional knock down with something modern however the character home still has the strong hold. Well laid out and good size blocks with a short route to the city make Prospect high on many peoples list. There is a sense that the further you are from Churchill rd and Regency rd the better but Ive noticed a real change in that thinking over the past 18 months. A lot of people dont want to be north side of Prospect rd, however even that mind set has changed a little with renovators and developers wanting to buy now in this area due to the Churchill rd developments. With good services restaurants and schools also Nth Adelaide just down the road Prospect is one of the most sought after suburbs.

"An increasingly prestigious suburb with an associated price tag"

Prospect has certainly evolved in the last 20 years. As a child living in a neighbouring suburb, I often visited this area which then was an average working class suburb. While some Prospect residents who bought before the real estate boom in the early 2000s may still fit this description, the price of the average Prospect home would now be out of reach of this demographic.

Prospect has many wide leafy streets dominated by lovely bungalow style homes that were predominately built in the 1920s and 1930s. At the North Adelaide end of Prospect, the homes become older and the price tags increase. Many homes have been beautifully renovated and had large extensions put on them.

Cafes and restaurants abound on Prospect Road. In the last 15 years it has evolved to become a mini North Adelaide. One is spoilt for choice when eating out. Boutique shops are becoming a more regular occurrence along this strip and I'm sure it is only time before it evolves into a northern version of Norwood's The Parade.

Prospect certainly has many fantastic features, but I believe that the cost of housing in this suburb has been over inflated by middle class families wanting to live close to the city. This suburb that was once relatively affordable is now out of the reach of many people.

Some Prospect homes are prone to movement and therefore cracking. Some parts of Prospect are set on clay soil, a factor that many are not aware of. Before purchasing your expensive updated bungalow, it may be worth checking this out.

All in all a lovely suburb if you can afford the price tag.

"A wonderfula area that is still improving"

A great inner city location that is still on its way on the up. It is getting more a more expensive in here and in many ways it is still worth it. Depending on the street, you could be in the most beautiful street in Adelaide that betters its rivals in the inner east and south east or just another inner northern suburbs street.

Prospect road is a great street for a lot of things and has some wonderful little cafes and restaurants.
I have long looked at trying to buy in Prospect but it has forever been just beyond my reach and will only get furtehr out of reach for many.

The blocks are often of a good size and the older houses are stunning. However, while many have been restored there are still a number that need a bit of work.

Prospect has some great facilities close by and some good schools. However, crime is still a problem here. It often features in the Messenger for the wrong reasons.

It is close to the city and well serviced by public transport so if you work in the city this is a great spot. Eastern suburbs lifestyle but without the price tag...yet.

"A great spot for families"

Prospect is a very large suburb spanning from the edge of North Adelaide all the way to Regency Road.

There are some lovely living areas around the leafy streets on either side of the Southern end of Prospect Road, with lots of old bungalow homes which have undergone recent renovation. The renovation trend is slowly heading north, as street by street of this huge suburb undergo quite major facelifts.

Prospect Road itself has a number of cafés, shops and a large complex with lots of fresh produce including Adelaide Fresh, which offers one of the best range of fruit and vegetables in Adelaide.

Just a short distance from the city, you can be in the heart of the CBD in 15 minutes by car or 20 minutes by bus (with frequent buses on Prospect Road, Churchill Road and Main North Road).

There is a huge range of facilities nearby for sport - the Aquatic Centre, the North Adelaide golf course, various gyms and the Adelaide parklands with soccer fields, tennis courts and cricket pitches. There are parklands nearby (great for walking the dog or playing with the kids).

Schools include Prospect Primary and Blackfriar’s (a Catholic boys school), and there are a number of childcare spots along Prospect Road.

It is a diverse suburb, with a number of family homes, executive townhouses and student rental accommodation, so you’ll be sure to find something to suit.
