Reviews of Brisbane (CBD), QLD
"Ignorant and Racist People."
Visited Brisbane CBD while road tripping across Australia after my graduation. Encountered racist and agressive teenagers on a street while minding my own business. The people in this country are not very educated but show unnecessary arrogance to foreigners and migrants. A blight on the face of this earth. My only reaction to this place was YUCK !!!!
"Racist and violent teenagers."
Visited this place many times between January and April 2024. There is a lot of youth crime and many of the teenagers are quite racist. They will single you out of you are a foreigner and openly harass you on the streets and guaranteed no one will step up to help you. Happened to me while I was doing some street photography. Most of Australia's cities are substandard and lack any technology, innovation or sophistication. They country is filled with uneducated tradies who dropped out of school when 15 or 16 yrs old who make money due to high wages and show their privilege by showing racist sentiments to migrants and international students. The country lacks vision, modern thinking, technology, innovation and infrastructure but rather than improving themselves they blame migrants and international students for their own lack of vision and innovation. This city and this nation will not survive much longer as arrogance and pride has an expiry date.
"Train system is third world and so boring nothing else to do but shop"
With the Olympics in less than 10 years you would think their train system is atleast showing signs of being modernised. But no it is embarassing so bad very dirty platforms and filthy trains even in Central stations in the city. Their ticketing system is a joke with the vending machines from last century. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!
Then apart from Soutbank which is good the only other thing to do there is go to the Shopping malls Westfields mainly which are packed to the walls with people trying to keep themselves from getting bored as theres fudge all to do during the day.
In terms of capital growth for your property investments it is 1 hour either way to the paradise haven of Sunshine Coast/Gold Coast where you can actually enjoy living. It really depends on the immigration of people from Sydney/Melbourne as the local buyers would never be able to push prices higher.
Vending machines are for tourists only!
Also christ if shopping malls are all you're into there's no help for you.
"What A gem of a place to live."
I am originally from Sydney, where I spent a lot of my youth in Pyrmont/Ultimo/Glebe and also lived in HK. HK was kick-arse for food and nightlife, truly a 24/7 city and safer than either Sydney or Brisbane.
But Brisbane is waaay more affordable to visit and live there. Coffee is consistently way better than Sydney (or even Melbourne, in my experience). 2 bed apartments for $400-450k is insanely good. The traffic actually moves. PT is great now, lots of parks, comedy scene, QPAC all good.

"Brisbane stands for boring"
I decided to write on here because I googled BRISBANE NIGHT LIFE with a review of Brisbane City having 24hr night life which is complete total lie, you will find about three 24hr restaurants in Brisbane city. I lived here my whole life, being in my 30s now and nothing has changed. Has always been the same boring brisbane. Dont get caught after 10pm in Brisbane, anyone out after that time is bascially labelled a criminal or drug dealer to the QPS. Look out if your in a group of more than 3 ,especially with tattoos get your tatts taken photos of and get questioned about being affiliated. Only real late night option of food is maccas where you can find every 4kms from each other. In conclusion there is no night life here and if your down for a boring night out wondering around not knowing what to do cos there nothing to do, make sure you have some sort of story cos without one your a suspect of crime. In conclusion Brisbane requires you to be at home in bed by 9.00pm and no night life what so ever, 100%
This is so so true about being indoors by 9pm & this is epidemic all around Australia communism and socialist governments
Brisbane heat can get unbearable at times. Leaving your windows slightly open for air is an on the spot fine. Vehicles must be secured and locked if the driver is more than 3 meters from the vehicle, failer to do so is a penalty of $44.
Brisbane is an awesum place to live with lots of things to see n do
"THE HEAT IS WAY TO MUCH"
DRIVING HERE IS HELL!?
DRIVING IS LIKE BEING CHASED-
Coming from Sydney first thing I noticed was the way people drive here on highways are extremely rude no class whatsoever.
THE HEAT-
Just by steeping on your door step you will be melting no make up or Glam life or blow-dries as is way too much the heat so going work 10 hours having to leave car out of the CBD is impossible as you'll be sweating like stinking sweat bad. so going & coming back from an 8 hour shift is nightmare but even just 4 hours is too much
NO PLACE LIKE SYDNEY-
I don't know where is best honestly I give up on the whole country lol so don't expect to be walking around green parks or coffees as you'll be crying for air-conditioning and cool showers your car will be damaged by the heat as you know you can not trust the window slightly open as it will be broken in I went to the park which was lovely hence two minutes after my face started to burn with the sweat and heat so ran back in to the melting 50 car heat to drive back home straight into the shower
There is just no possible way to fix it unless stay home work from home and wait till sun goes down I must say I think best capital city to live right now is Adelaide as is affordable and beautiful stable climate I lived in Sydney Alice Springs Tasmania ( kind of Antarctica )
And Brisbane currently.
Two weeks here and short lived hahahaha

"Grimy and unsafe."
I would never live in Brisbane again and especially not the CBD. So many violent attacks on women in past years and even people reading to children are subject to bigoted attacks. Just an awful city.
"traffic and parking"
this city could sounds nice but it is the worst ever in terms of TRAFFiC and PARKiNG even when meters are not in service you get car/motobike towed away for less than 30min and massive fine in the CBD!!! It is a total nightmare to find a carpark but the council must be happy with all the money they making out of it, it.s totally ridiculous ..5min after your ticket runs out you will get an fine for sure ..i would NEVER EVER recommand to get any close to this place if you are driving! it.s just a constant robery, i forgot to mention $50 for 2hours in a park 👌🏼😱 unless you are driving a maserati forget about it.
The city is created for us to pay for the luxury not us are enjoying it but the council's & governments we just to look at it and hope
"beautiful photo"
That's a beautiful photo, but pretty much the most of what you're going to get out of it. Honestly the traffic is so terrible here and it's really quite hard to get to. I live in and around the city but I try my level best to never head anywhere near the city centre if I can help it. I would honestly be happy living out in the suburbs for the rest of my life if I could!
Me too. Dull-wit city
"Townsville is better!"
I didn't like the Brisbane CBD at all, not very friendly nor naturally beautiful. I then went to Townsville and knew straight away what I had been missing. Townsville has so much natural beauty, the people are friendly and the city inviting. Everyone who is considering Brisbane should try Townsville first. The city is booming and you will love it here.
"Resident in a CBD Apartment for 7 years now..."
I'm a Sydney born, Newcastle youthed, 53 year old engineer with 2nd time around family. My day job has taken me all over Australia and I've visited/worked most parts of the world including having "homes" in South Africa, Canada, and Brazil. Having experienced a lot of locations I ended up in Brisbane as my first choice for a placed to call home for family. I think its a great place - though I'm a little unusual in Oz for having chosen an apartment over a house. I chose the CBD apartment to avoid the traffic I experienced when in living in the inner west. Its a beautiful climate 90% of the year. There's no shortage of things to do within easy driving distance (Southbank to Gold & Sunshine coasts). For mine the only drawback is the traffic (but not as bad as Sydney). Everything else is terrific. I like it so much I even made some ground level toilet & water stops time-lapse videos of my favorite inner city walks which are part of the large public "bikeway" network. You can see them, and get a taste of what the inner city is like on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLi8Gd23AnHlUNiM5fWOw3M_aHtfT-GWsG

"Twentieth Century City with a Prehistoric Climate"
I lived in Brisbane for most of my life but I permanently relocated to a cooler climate because of the oppressive heat and humidity. Brisbane used to get by with two seasons, Summer and Winter, now it only enjoys one season - and I think we all know which one that is! Unfortunately, in recent decades Brisbane has become way overrated and way, way overpriced! Think carefully about the climate and make sure you earn enough money before you pack your bags and make the big move to Brisbane.

Yeah, mentioning muslims in that fashion totally didn't just undermine your comment about racist cops. That sounded racists too, I know some Muslims who have been kind people, don't lump them all.
80s style? Yeah. I hate Brisbane. Summer is horrible NIGHTMARE oppressive heeaaat and humidity no summer daylight savings morons
"Not so affordable anymore"
Hello everyone :)
I would like to start of saying that I think Brisbane in general has loads of facilities and things to do on weekends whether it be going out for a nice dinner or hanging out in South Bank.
Nightlife being a great aspect with so much to see and do, I found that growing up around Brisbane was a safe nice place to live.

"Village on City Fringe"
Live in a house in the city post code? No apartments? Gorgeous Petrie Tce is a tiny heritage precinct shouldering Brisbane's CBD just before Paddington. One of Brisbane's oldest suburbs, it's long and colourful history is reflected in its eclectic mix of architecture: Queensland workers cottages, mansions, terraces and contemporary design decorate its hilly laneways. Perhaps because it's name is also a street, Petrie Terrace is a bit of a secret, like its simple timber and tin cottages which turn out to be three storeys of luxury. You can walk to the City centre through the Roma St Parklands; cinemas, full-size Coles, specialty shops, cafes and restaurants at the historic Barracks, nightlife on Caxton St or a slightly longer 15 min stroll to GOMA and the Cultural Cente at Southbank. Roma St Station and City and Normanby Busways offer all the public transport you need to go without a car. If you're a family, state of the art Central City Library, Ithaca Pool and Skate Park, Petrie Terrace State School and Brisbane Grammar Schools are a short walk. Quick access to Brisbane's Bikeways network and sprawling Roma St Parklands offer recreation or 5 mins to highway heading to the Gold Coast, 2 mins to Inner City Bypass to the Sunshine Coast. Students can walk, bike or ride public transport to QUTs Kelvin Grove or City campuses. Royal Brisbane Hospitals are 5 min door to door via the Normanby Busway. If you love city life but want to tend a little garden, raise children, keep a pet or just enjoy gorgeous views from your verandah rather than an apartment window, check out Brisbane's best kept secret.
Great for
- Close to everything
- No need for car
- Character architecture, beautiful hilly laneways
Not great for
- Some streets are steep
- Gardens are small

"A great locality in the 4000 postcode"
We are a wonderful undiscovered pocket with the convenience of a unit, but cheaper and with our own block. 190sqm is small but depending on where you live this does not feel small. You can paint the house the colour you want and have a garden, a pool, and a dog and walk to everything if required. A tennis court however woudl be larger than most house blocks.
Our family of four (2 young kids) love it and for us work is a 15minute walk away. There are a number of families, singles couples, owners and renters and such a good mix of people.
Unlike Spring Hill most of the suburb is preserved as individual houses with few units.
If we were to move we would move across the road.
And as much as we can not see the city, we live in the city with a 4000 postcode.

"There are worse places to live"
I actually lived in a free standing house in Brisbane - its not a fairytale, its true. Petrie Terrace is the best part of Brisbane. It's close enough to walk to the CBD, has restaurants and cafes. A new supermarket and cinemas.
Sure there are apartments in the city, but if thats not your thing, you can still found a house. I'm not sure if Sydney and Melbourne have free standing residential homes in the city. But Brisbane does.
Brisbane is very, very slowly waking up from a long, almost coma-like sleep. You can now find a decent coffee, walk around without the need for a car and they've even discovered bridges and tunnels to assist the capital of Australia's sunniest state to cope with the demands of 'growing up'. Often people think and refer to Brisbane as a big country town. But I don't buy into that. Its a city, with the traffic, noise, pollution and crime that comes with being a city.
If apartment living is your thing - then make Brisbane your home. You won't regret living in the river city.

"Sunny Brisbane - beautiful one day, perfect the next"
Famous for its perfect year-round climate, Brisbane is a very popular residential destination. It is the capital of Queensland and Australia's third largest city (with a population of around 2 million).
It is a picturesque city, flanking the Brisbane river offer modern high rises as well as a number of old residential buildings. There are some lovely parklands and lots of outdoor spaces. Apartment style living is popular in and around the city, and the sprawling suburbs most commonly offer detached houses.
Brisbane offers a cosmopolitan lifestyle, a thriving economy and lots of sun. Working can be a challenge - tearing yourself away from the glorious weather outside can be hard. There are a number of universities and tertiary education opportunities here, so it is a great place to study.

"Brisbane - Great climate, great city, great fun"
Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and being a major city there is no end of things to see and do in Queensland's capital. Wander the city and visit the Museum, Art Galleries, enjoy the sights and sounds of South Bank. Spend the day at Lone Pine Koala Park or the Botanic Gardens. There are also many day trips to surrounding areas and attractions. As with any large city accommodation is your choice with Hotels, motels, backpackers and 5 star resorts. There are large shopping centres and around the CBD with malls and specialty shops in main streets. As with any large city, apartments make up most of the inner city living and priced above what you would expect in some of the outer suburbs.

i love brisbane to move there and work there because i so much want get up there its my favourite place its the best fabulous place to be there
Brisbane, has become a rat race, an overpriced crap of a place to live. Way too much traffic, and the humidity, is almost constant. Hate Brisbane, I was born there. Thank God, I don't live there anymore.
"A city with so much to offer. A mix of old and new, pity the river is so dirty looking."
This is a city that has a holiday atmosphere. It is like an overgrown resort town. Being in the tropics, dress is a fairly casual and the design and restructure of the city centre focuses on the relaxed lifestyle. It should be called the city of outdoor 'cafés'. Just about every suburb has a range of cafés with outdoor eating. Brisbane locals just love to sit outside to dine.
It used to be a city of hats and gloves before it developed into the more relaxed lifestyle of today. It was a city where all the rural property owners arrived with all their refinery and treated it as 'the big trip of the year', but with modern transport all that has changed.
The city itself is some 25km up river and nestled both sides of it. There is a man made lagoon and beach on the southern side which is ever so popular with the locals and tourists alike.
Because the weather in Queensland is so accommodating, there is almost any outdoor sport you can think of available to do somewhere in or around Brisbane. There is something to do for all age groups.
Brisbane has in latter years, been attracting 'the younger professional set' as they have discovered that the lifestyle that Brisbane offers is better than most other capital cities in Australia.
Many Brisbane residents drive north to the Sunshine Coast, or south to the Gold Coast for their weekend leisure time.
