"Entry to Gippsland"

Longwarry is the gateway to Gippsland and the first town in the Baw Baw Shire eastbound, which local government should be doing a lot more to emphasise this fact.
While Longwarry is small and there isn't a lot to do, the town is growing and slowly improving.
It has expanded residentially over the past decade or so and has become more of a commuter town in recent years being on the doorstep of the southeast suburbs – live in the country, travel back for work.
The train is part of the Traralgon/Pakenham line and has regular services throughout the day, although delays and bus transfers have been common since the recent duplication of the line.
Commercially, the town is starting to grow with some new shops allowing for more businesses (chemist, hairdresser, travel agent).
The bakery is outstanding, the butcher is great and the two popular café’s on Mackey Street cater for kids which is ideal for Mums and Dads.
The bowls club facility looks fantastic with its new roof and there are regular weekly events at the town hall (dance nights, karate lessons).
While around the footy ground could do with some much-needed upgrades (kids playground for example), the club itself is always competitive and has had a bit of success over recent years.
Overall, Longwarry is a great little country town that is yet to realise its full potential.

"one hick rough town"

Water coming into the house from poor drainage. Locals are rough and unwelcoming. The place has poor services, pot holes in roads and the smell from the rotting drains is terrible. Vandalism in the town from youth with nothing to do. Lack of parks. Filthy main street. Poor transport service. Cheap housing has created a getto.

"longer's life"

Quiet and cheap to buy good value for money. All the neighbours are well to do. I have gorgeuos view of a farm and fields from my 2nd bedroom window and my units backyard is bigger than most small houses backyards Iin pakenham. And the train is in very easy reach.

However i am happy to see i am not the only one feeling unwelcome as a ' newcomer' everyone is very friendly but its now coming across as forced suspicious politeness from some people. Definitley very different attitudes on what constitutes neighbourly appropiate behaviour.

The downsides are the lack of facilities like a gym, highschool, major supermarket, bank and needing to drive to other suburbs which i find the suburbs biggest downfall as it is so disconnected from everyything. Id really like it to join up more with droiun and warragul or bunyip and improve its facilities though i expect long term residents want to maintain the country simple life and peace.

Not great for

  • Long time residents and new comers tend to keep to themselves and tend to have different views on how things should be
  • Used to be quite small and long time locals I feel dislike the growth of the area

"Happyville"

Stockmans Wood Estate, Everyone is so friendly, the kind of place that everyone stops to say hello or give you a wave. Ideal for families with easy access to schools, public transport, there is a small IGA however for main shopping best to take the short drive to Drouin or Bunyip.
