Melville, WA 6156

Melville is one of the safest and friendliest suburbs in Perth. The suburb has a fantastic family/community feel to it.

With great access to restaurants, cafes and public transport. As well as the swan river on your doorstep.

Melville is an excellent suburb to live in.

Melville is okay but nothing special. Alfred cove is a much better suburb.

To be honest I think Melville is overpriced for the suburb it is. And its next to some dodgy suburbs that doesn't help either such as Palmyra and Willagee. Avoid.

It's good place amazing location.

Melville is no doubt a good suburb. But not great or excellent.
Better zones for public schooling and the price isn't as great value as elsewhere.

Unfortunately the needs for appropriate pedestrian access for people with low vision & deafblindness is not recognised on certain road crossings in the Palmyra area.

I have lived in many places in my life and for the past 6 yrs i have been residing in Melville. Definitely the Friendliest & safest suburb i have ever experienced.
Also located within walking distance to almost anything (eg. Schools, Shops, Resturaunts, Parks).

We purchased a house here after 2 years of looking for a property in the southern suburbs of Perth (we were looking within Melville and South Perth councils).

Both myself and my partner grew up in nearby suburbs so we know the area well. It is a very safe suburb. Many streets are quiet with few cars so children can play on the street. There's great parks such as Kadidjiny Park.

Melville Primary school performs very well. Melville High school has improved greatly over the years and is now a high performing independent public school although doesn't quite compete with Rossmoyne and Applecross. Many of the children in this suburb go to private high schools such as Santa Maria, CBC, Aquanis and Corpus Christi.

We love the large, leafy blocks with a combination of new modern homes and older homes. There are minimal units/villas in this suburb.

It is 20-30 minutes to the city on public transport (either bus then train, or bus all the way, or drive to bull creek and then train) which we both use regularly for work. Yes it would be better to be right on the train line but we think we are close enough.

Our neighbours are mostly elderly (in original character homes) and families. No government housing (that we are aware of!)

Garden city is nearby which is great for shopping. Great cafés/restaurants strips nearby in Ardoss and Fremantle as well as local cafés/restaurants closer by. We are looking forward to the redevelopments of Garden City and Melville Plaza. Melville is also not far from the new Fiona Stanley Hospital but far enough away that we shouldn't have any of the traffic issues that are likely to arise!

The traffic on Canning Hwy near Applecross can be a pain but that's what you get for living reasonably close to the city. All suburbs within easy reach of the city have traffic issues.

In summer, we frequent the river (2 minute drive) and the beach (less than 10minutes to Port or Leighton beaches).

Overall, I would highly recommend Melville suburb or any nearby suburbs.

Moved here 8 months ago. It is so central to everything.Love the parks, river walks, Garden city near by, and the quiet pretty streets. I feel so safe and all my neighbours are so friendly. I take the bus into Perth every morning. One bus the 106, straight to my office. No changing and just so easy ! Sundays I go to Fremantle (10 mins away) and enjoy the buzz and cafe strip. Then enjoy going home to melville after a lovely day. Life's good !!
P.s . Another thing I love is I am not far from the beach and have fast internet here

Not clean or green, and traffic is a night mare and that is just one of the prices you pay to live in Melville. Another downside of Melville is the price of a property there, and if you want something modern then you will have to look else where. There is not much good about it, unless you want a trendy location, as apparently trendy people love traffic plagued areas.
