Reviews of St Clair, NSW
"Not my cup of tea."
We are fortunate to reside in a cul-de-sac in the south part of St Clair, and it's exciting to see the development of new infrastructure supporting the connection to the new Western Sydney airport. In my opinion, that's where the positives end for me.
Moving to St Clair has been a culture shock for me. Some people in this area and its surroundings are very rough on the edges and ill-mannered. We had an attempted break in within three months of moving into our new home. We hear of crime in the community too frequently for my liking. Some drivers drive quite fast and aggressively. There are no footpaths in most streets except for the main drives/roads.
The local St Clair shops are very unappealing and I find a lot of the patrons here unwelcoming and cold (no smiles, manners, please and thank you). However, everyone tends to keep to themselves.
Access to the M4 and M7 are really good. You do tend to rack up quite a lot of kilometres travelling to Penrith Westfield and its surrounding shops as well as Blacktown Westpoint. Eastern Creek Quarter is a great alternative to St Clair shops, but it is about a 30km round trip or a 10-15 min drive each way. I personally avoid Mt Druitt and their local Westfield as I do not feel safe there.
All in all, I would only recommend purchasing here if the property is within a quiet street surrounded by good neighbours, or if its location appeals to you (e.g. access to local workplaces, schools, family, etc). Personally, this suburb is not suitable for us long-term and we will look to move closer to family and in a different suburb once it is financially feasible.
"Affordable housing, nice area, but still Western Suburbs"
Positives of St Clair:
-Comparatively cheap housing prices
-Lovely houses
-Easy access and availability of shops
-Great land sizes
-Plenty of parks
-Abundance of public transport
-Great weather
Negatives of St Clair:
-It is primarily an Aussie suburb, which means there are still a lot of racist attitudes and "rough" people. (i.e., the type to get defensive or aggressive quick, own pitbulls, etc)...
-Plenty of hoons. Kids/young adults love to drive their cars at ridiculous speeds, do burnouts etc. Clearly their parents don't care, so this shows the mentality of some of the people you will be living with.
-Being a Western Suburb area means the quality of food is very poor and caters to the low socio-economic tastes and budget . Think McDonalds, KFC, Domino's, and other unhealthy takeaways. No quinoa salad, smoothie bowls, etc here. Food outlets are plentiful but the quality is poor. People here are resistant to change.
- Being outer west and so far from the city means that attitudes are still a bit in the "dark ages". E.g., It's more common than not for Medical Centers here to not have websites. Medical services are poor with outdated attitudes and service provision and lack innovation.
-long commute to Sydney CBD.
-lack of diversity.

"Been here since 1986"
The suburb was established in the mid 80’s and most of the people building were young families, those of which had children around that time. As with any new suburb you sometimes see around 15-20 years after establishment some teenage riffraff (which was my generation). That having passed now St Clair is a great place to live. Good shops, Woolworths then aldi and IGA at neighboring Erskine Park. The location is central to both the m4 and the m7. There are quite a few walking tracks through reserves which are handy. Our street puts on a Christmas party for the kids each year and we know all our neighbors and look after each other. Around a year ago I saw the odd Arab here or there at the shops however today there are many more that have decided to make St Clair their home. Which is fine if you re prepared to get pushed out of the way when you’re in the shopping centre. Unfortunately for us the house behind ours has been occupied by Arabs who have no respect for keeping music down on weeknights or driving safely. As with the rest of Sydney the area is becoming very culturally diverse very quickly which is fine if people want to integrate with the rest of society and be polite and curteous but unfortunately this is not always the case.

"Unique compared to surrounding suburb"
Mostly Aussies, quiet, safe, completely residential area. Don't see arabians, indians, chinese, africans around.
St Clair shopping mall is very handy - woolworths, gloria jeans, subway, foodcourt, dollarshop, pharmacy, medical, Aus Post, fine dining, McD, butchery, bakery, dress shop etc. all daily needs available.
Bunnings/Officeworks are in the adjuscent Minchinbury suburb (5-7mins drive)
Westfield is in the adjuscent Mt Druitt Suburb (5-7 mins drive)
Nearest Train Station is either Mt Druitt or St Marys. 5-7 mins drive. Express Train available.
M4 is very accessible within 2km drive from st clair. 20mins drive to parammatta.
Very friendly and safe suburb.
There are few schools, fields, skateboarding park.
More interesting is - new Airport Badagry Creek will be just 15mins away from St Clair. So future potential is very promosing.
Loving living here. According to me this is comparatively better suburb compared to surrounding suburbs west Sydney.

"Best little suburb for families!"
My family and I moved to St Clair last year. On first day, we had freshly baked cookies from one neighbour whilst another 2 dropped by to say hello:) Absolutely safe, quiet and friendly neighbourhood with excellent schools! My son goes to Clairgate Public school which is such a fantastic primary school. The location is very handy with the nearest train station 10-12 mins away. Great place for families, absolutely recommend it!!

"Close to all arterial routes yet tucked away from the rat race of big cities."
I have lived in St Clair since 1996 arriving from the UK and although there have been a lot of changes and an influx of diverse groups, it's still a great place to live. An evolving landscape of shops and activities keeps St Clair fresh.
I live on a busy main road and agree that traffic does drive a little fast and there are some rev heads about, but it's not too disturbing.
Plenty of schools and universities close by.
Great walking tracks and parks to stroll or run through especially if you are a dog lover.
Great for
- Protected from bad weather
- Great sports fields
- Dog friendly
- Fantastic for Families
- Quiet and Safe
Not great for
- Traffic can be fast at times as it's a 50 Km area.
- Could do with extra parking at the busy shopping centre.

"Overpriced and overrated."
I grew up in St Clair from the late 80's until 2012. In that time the suburb has changed significantly.
The influx of people now moving in to St Clair are not to be desired. There are a lot of "rough" types that make you feel like you live in Mt Druitt. I have regularly seen pregnant women smoking out the front of the shops, punch ups, every weekend the quix (now 711) was being terrorised by local delinquents including smashing signs and graffiting.
Luckily we lived in a cul-de-sac which I will say offered more safety then a main road however you wouldn't want to live on a main rd like banks drive.
Everyone speeds in St Clair. The local speed limit is 50kph however it is not unusual to be tail-gated if you're doing under 60. I had to recently go back there and I forgot just how much they speed / tail gate even when you have a baby on board sticker on your car.
Yes the suburb has McDonald's, kfc, hungry jacks and a lot of other fast food options but you'll notice the food availible is relevant to the demographic of people living there. The woolies is rubbish, they never have what you need. So many times is go to get 2 or 3 items and have to go to st Mary's because at Clair didn't have it. The car park at st Clair shops is a joke. On a Tuesday at 10am it will be full. Afternoons and weekends forget it, you'll be looking for a spot for ages which makes it super annoying to just duck into woolies.
Al in all, I would not suggest living in st Clair. It's full of derros, annoying p-platers, terrible shops and food options (unless you're a slob who eats take out everyday) you may as well buy in Mt Druitt as there is no difference between the two suburbs except price.
Great for
- None
Not great for
- Rough people
- Overpriced houses
- Terrible shops
St Claire is a great place to live. Property prices are high reflecting good lifestyle, safety and caring community. It is a small area and very convenient for everything one needs. No clubs though but good schools and sporting facilities. Close to train station and will be the future growth area when new airport is build. Just 35 min by express train to Sydney cbd.
Soph, I have lived in St Clair for 29 years. I find your view of the suburb very much off the mark. I agree about the parking, but the people who live here are for the most part extremely nice & friendly. The shops are usually well stocked.
I agree with you.I have lived here since 1994 and have seen the suburb disintegrate.I have had my cats poisoned and also stolen. The street had our windscreens smashed.Break ins to 4 nearby houses.Large amount of serious car accidents (main rd),fences smashed in,letterboxes stolen. We are retiring now and moving way out of the area.Goodbye St Clair!!!
St Clair has changed in 40 years use to be nice place till ferals from Penrith, St Marys and Mt Druitt moved in. Nosey gossiping nuisance neighbours watch us and listen to everything we say totally being stalked. Mean rough looking people in our street. Burnout car and stabbing at a school near shops last year. Lack of parking at St Clair shops I prefer Woolworths at St Marys as I find more food stacked on shelves. My aunty lives in same area her dog was poisoned she also has neighbours that stare and give her the creeps.
"Feels just like a Country Town"
Originally coming from Mudgee, I appreciate the lifestyle and quietness that country life brings.
I have lived and worked in St Clair and Erskine Park now for 20 years and I love the feel, style, quietness and community spirit the area has to offer.
I have 3 boys that have grown up in St Clair and Erskine Park and they have been involved in the local sports for many of those years. There is plenty for the young athlete to get involved in with Little Athletics, Soccer, Rugby League and AFL as well as many other sports.
The local Professional Skate Park is fantastic for the teenagers as well.
Great shopping with 3 Local modern shopping centres. Woolworths, McDonalds, Gloria Jeans, Specialty Shops, Food hall and 7/11 in Endeavour Avenue, St Clair as well as Italian & Chinese Restaurants, Real Estate Agency, Tobacconist, Foodworks and Doctors in Melville Road, St Clair. Erskine Park Shopping features Italian Restaurant and Noodle Bar, ALDI, Franklins and Contours Gym for the ladies. There is also a great Bar called "The Underground".
Schools are a plenty with Catholic, Primary and High catering for all ages.
For the Pub fanatic the "Blue Cattle Dog" is place to go for a relaxing drink and a great meal at ED'z Bistro.
With beautiful sunny days in Summer and crisp mornings in winter there is always the feeling of safety, quietness and fresh air..
Come and take a look and join the many happy families in St Clair and Erskine Park.

"Close to everything yet far enough for peace"
St Clair originally began as an estate area off the original suburb of Erksine Park (St Clair Estate, Erskine Park) but has since turned into its own suburb and the only things that remain Erkskine Park are the title deeds to houses and the postcode.
If you are looking for a quiet, well situated, family suburb then look no further than St Clair. Like any suburb there isn't much of a nightlife (in terms of clubs) but it does have a local pub and shopping centre with many well known places at hand;
Woolworths, McDonalds, KFC, Red Rooster,Sunway, two Chinese Resteraunts, RedLea Chickens, two Pizza and Pasta Resteraunts, Gloria Jeans, Thai, Kebab and Pide, Michel's Patisserie, Noni B, Rockmans, EB Games, Payless Shoes, Always a Woman fashion, Prices Plus, Australia Post, Paleface, Quix, Shell, Curves, two bakeries, two Tobacconists, Mo's Mobiles, Florist, Lumine, Blockbuster, 3 medical centres, two pharmecies (Soul Pattison), Commomwealth Bank, Diamond Hill, Optix 2000, Butcher, Fruit Market, a public library, Venus Nails, newsagency, 3 hairdressers (plus more in houses), 2 dentists and two doctor's surgeries.
When it comes to your childrens education, you have 5 diffeent primary schools, two high schools (one in St Clair but some of St Clair is zoned for Erkskine Park's high school) There is also many childcare, long daydare and preschool for young children. Large parks and ovals for recreational activities as well as sports.
Naturally I may have a biased opinion, I have lived here all my life (23 years) . My cul-de-sac is very friendly, I have to admit it was more friendlier when i was younger, when all the kids would band together and play while all the parents gathered for chit chat. We also had street parties around christmas and new years, but that has since changed. Many people will keep to themselves now but a simple wave and smile is still given, sometimes a little hello and a talk about the weather. If it was still like it was when I was young i would have put very friendly but I believe the area is beginning to age as the children that once were are now adults, thankfully i still see many young families move in (with 4 in my street alone)
Where I live, there is a small area that has no gas lines, but barely 50 metres away there is. We have a mobile tower (but the local shopping centre does have a block set up - so its not very good when you're inside) and phone exchange (which means the closer you are to it, the faster your internet goes). There is no ponds for that true 'family neighbourhood' feel, but as stated above, many parks. I run a Voip, ADSL2, used to have foxtel and have full electrical stovetop and oven. WATER IS SYDNEY WATER but you can add rainwater tanks too. Traffic where I am is little to none, but on the main roads you may have the average day's traffic.
I own cats so I find pests not much of a problem, but they are here - snakes, spiders, mice, flies and mozzies - you can't really escape them. There is a new skatepark that attracts the local pests but it keeps them out of trouble lol
All in all, the area isn't perfect but with everything close to you, as well as buses that travel to St Marys, Penrith and Mt Druitt for your bigger shopping needs, new playgrounds and a modernised shopping centre - there is little to fault.

"Good suburb in a handy location!"
St Clair is a nice suburb located close to the M4, M7 and large shopping centres. St Clair has a good variety of parks and sporting facilties, as well as many local sporting clubs, churches and schools. St Clair has 5 primary schools, a high school, medical centre, many childcare centres, one decent sized shopping mall and another smaller shopping strip. It is a friendly suburb with not much traffic, and only a short drive to major shopping centres around the area.

My parent's built in Coowarra Dr in the mid 1980s, and we were there until 2000. Couldn't fault the residents there, always saw them as real salt of the earth people. It had a real Aussie culture, and people were very neighbourly. There were also Italians, and Maltese in the neighbourhood, and there were no issues. As kids we never felt unsafe, there was always someone looking out for us.
Last time I went to see the old house, it was depressing to see the lack of house pride exhibited by the Arabs residing there.
